I put on my dedicated snows over the weekend...the original Dunlops have 24k or so on them are are looking pretty low on tread life...not down to the wear bars, but almost all the siping is gone.

My plan is to put on Michelin LTS M/S2 in the 235/85R16 size come spring.

I drive on gravel every day...the dunlops are fine street tires.

I firmly disagree with you. Last October i was moving out of our house in MASS during a 15 inch snowstorm. I spent 4 hours Satuday night in the height of the blizzard driving through the moutains in western MASS with stock Dunlops. These did great. Put the truck in 4x4 and drive like your supposed to you and you will not get stuck on these tires in snow.

Huh , our wet coastal snow packs the tread tight

I know how to drive in snow , I've been doing just fine with 2WD and 4WD vehicles here for 28 years

I have stocks with 32k and will need to replace them in another few thousand miles. What are your suggestions for tires that have the same ride characteristics as the stocks [P245/75R16] and are within reason price-wise?

not saying you don't, all I am saying is that I think people trash the stock Dunlops just because. They are a very strong all season tire.

Now, if you are a logger or a serious off roader, then obviously you will want something more aggresive, but for the majority of the folks who use their trucks as a daily driver, the Dunlops are more than capable. just my .02 :D

No disrespect but I had the dynopro ats and they're worse than the dunlops they look really cool but they r the most garbage tire for anything other than dry pavement

The Dunlops were the worst tires I've ever owned on any vehicle (and that's many). Horrible wet traction is what got me out of them at 8K miles and into a set of Destination A/T's (good tires). There's no reason I should barely touch the gas and spin the wheels. I have Duratracs now, drive the same, and no problems. Same with the Destinations prior.

I'll put it this way: I've seen the Dunlops on Tire Rack for $49.

It just goes to show ya. Everybody has an opinion.

Opinions are like assholes... Most of them stink. :)

I tried to get my Dunlops to spin on wet pavement and they just barely broke before grabbing.

Oh well. I guess I should be able to get cheap replacements in here when mine wear out.

I bought my truck at 32,000 miles with the stock tires on it and took them off at 32,050. They would have gone 40K I'm guessing. I didn't have any use for them. The only real performance criteria for OEM tires, seems to be ride quality. That's about the only aspect a customer will see on a test drive.

Agreed! I had 20k on my 2011 Taco and the tires still had 9/32 on them. I'll be glad to pick up a set from someone selling their "shitty" dunlops for dirt cheap.

Opinions are like orgasms; mine matters most and I don't care if you have one. (can't take credit for this saying, I just love it)

Now back on topic. The stock Dunlops weren't all that bad. The main reason I ditched them a little early was that I was DESTROYING them off-road. It's possible that the extra "siping" the rocks gave them boosted their wet and snow traction, because I never had any problems. This is what mine looked like after about 25K miles of use.

I really don't know what to say to this. The Dunlops are brutally bad in snow. Sure, if you drive very cautiously you won't kill yourself with them (I drove for one winter with them and didn't bend anything). But upgrade to any all terrain and you will see just how terrible they are.

I swapped mine out at 37k for Hankook ATm's and they are way, way better in snow and rain. I drive in 2WD in deep snow with the Hankooks and wouldn't attempt that with the Dunlops.
