I never said that at all.

    You sir are a liar.

What I stated was the reasoning behind Toyota's choice in tires. I also said that if you did not understand that then you are ignorant.

It isn't my fault that you tried to make a tire do something that it wasn't designed to do.

As evidenced by some in here they have no issues with snow and the Dunlop tires. Just because you have a different experience and opinion doesn't null out every body else's opinion or experience.

I am truly sorry that you are ignorant.

My stock dunlops last 55,000 miles.

There were terrible tires. Bad grip, wore away quickly on gravel roads when I took a look at the tread after a short stint, but I go so many miles out of them because I was mainly pure hwy. They broke loose in the rain quiet often, and it even lead to me fish tailing and getting into an accident.

Get rid of them as soon as you can afford so.

    This made me LOL!

It was kinda weird too. I had been in 2nd gear since about 20 mph so it wasn't shift shock... road was flat... just at 45 mph the tires went WEEEEEEEEEEE! Oh well, not a surprise. It happens so often my blood pressure probably doesn't even go up anymore.

It's not the record worst to be sure. These are the only tires I've even driven that gave a fourth gear spin on wet grooved pavement. Now that made me pucker up a little.

Oh lordy what would happen if I bought the supercharger. Oh yeah. Smoke.

Nope, Don't work in the tire industry, but I have been in the automotive industry for 18 years... I understand the different types of equipment and what they are designed to do. Oh I do know how to drive. That may make a difference.

    No emotional attachment at all.

I have noticed that two subjects really set you off however:
    1. Leaf Springs.
    2. Stock Tires.

    Funny dude you are. :)

Au contraire mon frere , I don't care about the Toyota leaf springs even though they are wimpy , I replaced mine , and the stock tires don't bother me even though they are good only for sunny days on pavement

What really pisses me off is the lack of heated mirrors , I mean come on

There seem to be some very polarized arguments here about the Dunlop AT20's that most of these trucks ship with. On one hand, there are those saying that they're crap, and the other, there are those saying that they're good all-season tires. It seems that the predominant arguments in favor of the AT20's are "that toyota chose them for a reason", and "works really good for me in the snow".

The argument about working in the snow is not valid, because it compares a 4wd with traction control limited slip etc., against previous experiences in 2wd vehicles. Well a 4wd with bald summer tires will work better in the snow than a 2wd with winter tires.

Toyota's reason for choosing these tires has nothing to do with the tire quality. These are literally the CHEAPEST tires available. Check tirerack dot com, they are the only tires that fit our trucks that are less than $100 each. Full set of 4 costs $388. I JUST purchased a replacement set of tires. Looking for a high quality tire that can take some punishment. My choice was Goodyear Silent Armor pro-grade. I figured that they would compliment the new snow plow I just installed. Not insane offroad traction, a good high quality all-season tire branded with the mountain+snowflake symbol for winter performance. Tirerack lists them at $210 each.

The AT20's lasted me 50,000 km. These tires did not impress me. They make an acceptable summer tire, but were not a match for hard work, longevity, or traction in any conditions less than 'ideal'.

I'm as cheap as they come, especially when it comes to "wasting" things. That being said, I've slid at the same turn at a certain intersection way too many times with these tires. I wasn't taking the turn too fast, I take it like I normally do (it's on the way home) but when I hit it when it was wet, I almost took out other drivers and some people at the corner.

I got new tires and there is no more sliding.

    Yeah.
Yep, cost is the answer to why they put them on new vehicles -- the cheapest one they could find with the proper rating. They used to put a decent (not great) Goodyear tire on their new vehicles. Some accountant probably got a bonus.
