Stock final gear ratio 2.7L 4x4 5sp trans?

    (Stock, not stick...can't seem to figure out how to fix a thread title!)

    I have a 2006 2.7L 5sp manual transmission 4x4. What the hell is my stock final gear ratio? 4.10?

    Just added 32's and 5th gear is useless now unless I get to 85mph. I need to change to a 4.5? or 4.88, but want to make sure I buy the right damned aftermarket set-up. Is the stock gear 8"? I see 7.8" online and am not sure which I've got.

    Thanks y'all. Feel free to recommend a decent brand. I don't need a monster gear- I don't abuse it off-road or anything like that.

    Unless it's different for some reason because it's a 4-cyl, it should be 3.73. If you want to upgrade you could get some 4.10 from East Coast Gear Supply. They're the go-to gear guys around here.

    I think it actually IS different. My understanding is that they geared up the rear diff to compensate for lower power.

    The manual transmission doesn't factor in? 5sp doesn't either? 4x4 too? Not doubting you, just have read a bunch of seemingly disagreeing opinions online.

    I think the 2.7 2x4 is 3.53, or something close to that.

    Hmmmm, that document is for a 2013 and seems like the gearing is conflicting with the 4.10 consensus. 3.95 is what the document shows, but I understand that's not a lot different from a 4.10. I guess the better question is: if I'm running 32-33's what gear ratio should I shoot for to restore my 5th gear to being usable at 65-75mph?

    Read down further - 3.95 is 1st gear in the 5-speed transmission. 4.100 is the differential (axle) ratio for the 4 cylinder 4X4 5-speed, 3.307 for the 4 cylinder 4X2 5-speed version.

    Using the same link, look at post 53. There is a link there with instruction of how to calculate your actual gear ratio should you want to verify the chart.

    Use the TW tire calculator to figure out a specific gearset to compensate for your tire change.

    Warning. Gear changes are not cheap, and are not a DIY venture by watching youtube.

    Ok, so when I do my calcs for my "new" tires (275/55/20 or ~32" diameter) I end up with a gear ratio of 4.45. So that would be closest to a 4.56 gear ratio needed to get back to near factory specs. If I move up to a 265/65/20 or ~ 34" diameter, which I plan on doing in the next year or so, I'll need 4.73 ( or the closest would be 4.88). Should I stick with the 4.56? Or go on up to the 4.88?

    No? Besides needing a decent press and various arbors/sleeves to press on/off bearings, why not? Also...will I need to do something with my front diff gearing, too? That question alone might answer why this isn't a novice/shade tree job. LOL

    Setting up gears is almost an art form. leave it to the professionals or have someone who knows show you step by step. if change the rear ratio you must match the front as well. you have 4.10s factory. 4.88 is way too much gear for 32s you'll be bouncing her off 4k rpm on the highway. if you're regearing you should lock her up too. you're going to have to suck it up and drop her into 4th and let the angry squirrels work. 4.88s are perfect for 35s basically makes the truck perform like stockish kinda

    Get under your truck and on it should be a tag that tells you what gears you have. But in my 2007 regular cab 2.7 manual I have 4:10 gears stock.
