Dude, these are EXACTLY the kind of problems I want to avoid. Thank you for putting this into words.

This x10. I want to avoid attention from potential thieves. But I also work in a very conservative environment, so I prefer a subdued, less flashy appearance in the case of business associates riding in my truck. Not the biggest deal in the world, but these things cross my mind.

As this plays out, the AudioControl DSP/amp is beginning to look like the way to go. Looks like I better start saving some cash!

Thank you for such a detailed post. Your thoughts have been very helpful to me.

Thanks, man. It's becoming clear that this is the best solution. Do you have experience with any particular model of DSP?

There are other DSPs out there as well, but require a secondary amp. I just really liked the simplicity of the DSP + amp in one.

Yeah...looks like the JL Audio FiX is a decent alternative. But, it's pricey too. Pound for pound, I think the AudioControl amp is a better buy. However, the Kicker Front Row comes at a more reasonable price point. I'd like to know how effective it is, though. Seems like it might be a "get what you pay for" scenario. Not to mention, a standalone DSP is yet another box to consume valuable Tacoma interior real estate.

I just worked on a truck with a Audio Control DQ-61, seems like a good starting point. Unless you want to deal with ones that require software. I'm just getting back into installing after a 8yr hiatus. Back in the day I never dealt with integrating into a factory head unit, because everyone would just switch it out.

I'm about to install a Hertz Audio system in my wifes 15 Corolla(5ch amp, speakers and a sub). If i'm not happy with how it sounds, I'll end up getting Hertz's new DSP.
