This one's for all of you sounds guys out there, I've used the search bar and still couldn't find quite what I'm looking for. The stock jbl sub behind the back seats doesn't seem to put out the power and bass that it should. I honestly didn't know it was there until I started doing research on sound systems and speaker upgrades. Is there something that I'm missing with it? Or is it just not meant to really "bump"?

My stock bumps pretty good. Will vibrate the seats at around level 30 for sound and up

The 2 biggest improvements I made to sound quality was installing kilmat sound dampening in the floor and back wall along with replacing the sub with a pioneer sub. I didnt realize that mine was torn from age until I took it apart to install the kilmat. You may inspect or replace yours since it's an '06. Went with a shallow mount DVC pioneer sub.

I thought the factory sub didn't start until 2012...

Any 2nd gen yr tacomas can come equipped with the JBL sound system but not sure about single cabs.

Thankyou all for the input! I have the bass setting on 5 and it's just not powerful I also have a new head unit going in later next week so I'm hoping that can get it to where I want!

It sounds like a wiring issue more than a head issue. I’m no sound expert tho.

I have to have my bass at -2 because my front door speakers are blown a bit and at -2 I can get volumes decent without them flubbing.

the sub, on the other hand, does just fine at -2 anywhere from 30-34 volume. Very clear it’s present. Yours must not be operating correctly.

I was able to put in an aftermarket pioneer head unit this morning that gave me all the controls and settings for the sub and door speakers, I am beyond satisfies with how it's performing now!
