Wood is heavier than you think. Especially when it is wet.

I'm with you, wood can be crazy heavy. That's why i posted that, since he said all he hauled was a load of wood, hahaha.

I mean, I agree the stock springs are not very truck worthy, but vast majority of people don't use 3% of the capability of a Tacoma so they are happy with it.

I bought the trailer after I bought my truck. Lol

Turns out that the bed isn’t big enough.

Should we “really” be concerned about the springs?
I mean it’s all fixable, right?

My uncle needed gravel one time, so he and my dad went to a local pit. Uncle backed truck under a spot where there was a cornice of dirt and gravel. Got up top and chiseled it loose with a shovel. Ended up burying the back half of the truck and blew both tires. How did people survive back then?? HAHAHA.

That is the other thing I am looking to avoid. I really don't want to have to replace the springs in another couple of years. Takeoffs are just going to do the same thing again.

A good option if you don't want to lift a truck is to go with air bags. I believe Firestone Ride-Rites are a decent option. If worrying about articulation, I've heard of people using Daystar cradles, but I have no experience personally. And you don't have to get a fancy air system or anything, as you can use any air compressor, at a gas station, home, or even a good sized bicycle pump works.

looking at a full setup from Dobinsons. The lift seems fairly minimal without the add a spring and the price isn't terrible.

I like to beat this dead horse...

An add a leaf when added to a worn out spring pack will not last. For longevity, the add a leaf needs to be added to a pack that is in good shape. Otherwise the add a leaf will literally be fighting against your currently bent springs, leading to a much shorter lifespan than if placed in a new pack.

yeah....putting an add a spring on a shot leaf pack sounds like a terrible idea. So, I am sure lots of people do it.

Sticking a block under them doesn't make them any less flat.

Hey guys, quick question that related to the topic. I recently came into acquisition of some Icon RXT leaf springs. I am also wanting to change the OEM rear shocks on the truck seeing as how they're 215k miles old. I'm looking at Bilstein shocks and am having a hard time deciding between the extended length and standard length.

Some of that will depend on the amount (if any) lift and if there is lift the type of driving you'll be doing. If the craziest thing you're doing is going over speed bumps at Lowes with a 2" lift you'll be ok with normal lenght shocks. If you're out off roading the suspension is doing some pretty good flexing I would suggest extended shocks.

As for me, I added an AAL and got a full 2" of lift. Not willing to take a chance of topping out and blowing a shock I went with extended shocks from Torch. So far they've been good, but then again I'm not a hard core off roader. Still nice to know if and when necessary I'll have plenty of travel room.

It’s my hunting rig so not really Moab and not mall crawling either. I’d say a healthy in between.
