Anyone have offroad/light rock-climbing experience with the stock/unprotected polymer gas tank in the later-generation Tacomas? Are they so vulnerable to rupture as to be unsafe in offroad situations? I'm looking into the BudBuilt skid plates, but that will take a while to ship and I would like to hit the trails this weekend.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
I haven't heard of any issues. As long as you aren't being stupid and are aware of clearance, I wouldn't see cause for concern.

I've done at least 200 miles of trails and easy to moderate obstacles with rocks, roots, and random other stuff with no problems.
Keep in mind what equipment you have and stay within your driving capability and the capability of the truck and you'll be fine!!

+1 to the getting a skid. I'll be equiping a set at some point...but I know I can run without it too.
