ATRAC in the OR is basically the Auto LSD from what I have read but with more capability

    Exactly.

My 06 SR5 had no traction or stability control. I wanted to swap in a Sport LSD but never got around to it.

Then i am wrong af! Ive never worried about if I should have gotten an OR over the sport. I have thought that I should have gotten a MT though.

Love it. True. More about driver than vehicle limitations. The 2018 TRD Sport DBLB looks awesome C65A5478-9F55-4650-A7EA-7DA1D6218740.jpg
Stock. Wish the off road offered long bed but I get why it doesn’t. When I get the money I’m gonna stay in the Tacoma family and buy either the TRD off-road or Pro just for fun days. The sport is my daily commute work truck which I hate for know cause mon-fri it’s dirty (to me)then Friday night to Sunday night it’s freaking show room quality. Badass. So aggressive front end and being 18’10” it’s like a freaking mini limo TRUCK. Just a beautiful truck to look at and fun to drive. Especially looking over the hood spoiler while driving giving you the illusion of being higher up and beefier.

The Off Road has the same Auto LSD as the Sport and the Locker is in addition

Yeah I don't regret getting the auto because I commute and use the truck as a daily. I do miss my old straight six 5-speed F-150 regular cab sometimes. But then I remember juggling my coffee, cell phone (before hands free), holding my GFs hand, all while shifting and steering with my knee and suddenly I don't miss it as much lol

Hmm interesting as this is missing on the 18 literature... perhaps they removed it when they added TSS for cost reasons?

Well then it looks like i'm wrong! Thanks for the info guys ! Still very happy I chose the sport model and still very confident that my truck can go *almost anywhere the OR can:mudding:

While the OP has a point, I’d say that the stock Tacoma lacks in the area of ground clearance which is a major concern if you drive in Wyoming, Montana and Colorado. I’m a veteran off-roader of over 10 years, and Stock with 32s, I found it difficult to position the truck without crushing the tcase, banging the gas tank, or ripping out the exhaust.

If you’re running dirt roads, that’s fine, but if you wanna get cool places, might look into some upgrades. I know that I’ve used my locker a lot, and it’s allowed me to pic careful lines and preserve equipment rather than spinning tires and bouncing down a trail.

    Pics from Wyoming for reference.

It's an electrically actuated locker. Without mods, you have to be in 4Lo to engage it.

I agree to a certain extent. The 3rd gen has quite a bit of ground clearence for a stock truck (other than the stupid crossover pipe location). Minus the air dam / chin strap, the approach, break over, and departure angles are the same as the new Ranger Raptor.

But yes, use it stock until you find your limit, then upgrade if you want to get further in.

Yes brother you can. I’m not an extreme off-road dude. I think it’s safe to safe my off-road experience is driving down a 8mile unmaintained/ unpaved Road to Hinkley solar field for 3 years is about as off road as I get lol. Woulda be much more fun in my Tacoma though!
