It’s a truck, so should at least have some mild “soft roading” capability for the odd gravel road or grass field. Check out the following street-oriented rough road tires.

    Nokian Outpost APT
    Nitto Nomad Grappler
    BFG Trail Terrain
    Vredestein Pinza AT
    General Grabber APT
    Pirelli Scorpion AT

LOL, the only "soft roading" I'll be doing with my truck is rolling across the lawn with a load of mulch. Said another way, Michelin Defender LTX M/S for me, and even if I was needing to pinch pennies, I'd still go with the similar Michelin Primacy LTX (about $25 per tire cheaper).

The tires I mentioned are literally perfect for that. Michelin Defenders are OK if you value longevity but their winter and non-asphalt traction is pretty lackluster.

Since you mentioned you didn’t care about longevity, pretty much any of the tires I mentioned will outperform Defenders in every way, including on the street.

Sorry, I beg to differ, the Defender will outperform all of those tires in the snow, and yes, longevity is a priority for me as is low road noise.

I have direct side by side comparison experience that says otherwise. Defenders are not quiet, and not particularly great in the snow. Those Nokian APTs for example are much better in those respects.

Michelin Defenders is your best bet.

I am and have been in the same boat as you. I don't put a bunch of miles on, so what I experience is that the tires start getting hard and traction starts to deteriorate over time, I haven't had dry rot per-se but the traction starts to annoy me.

What I do is to go to a tire site or 3 and put in the size I want, then sort it by price. Start going down the list to a tire/brand I think is acceptable, then start doing research into if its good for my driving needs (I am in the TX Gulf Coast, so snow not as much of a concern, but wet is), then settle on one or two and start the installed price search.

Personally, over the years I've used Dunlop HT tires and been satisfied (at the time), and most recently have used Yokohamas, both the HT and AT. The ATs at the time were cheaper than the HTs (??) but were as good for my driving. I've never put on the Michelins as they were always well rated, but more than I wanted to spend given the milage I put on.

    There, my entire .02.

Firestone destination le3, cooper srx, michellin defender's all three are good. However, because you don't drive often I would recommend a Sailun brand tire. They are 100% chinese-isium but i've ran them in the past from all terrain to high performance and I can say they are not a premium tire but unless you take them to the edge they act exactly like a premium tire. Very underrated brand and for the vehicles I don't put over 50'000kms a year on they get sailuns hands down

Good to know. It was the son of the owner (whom I really trust), which made me consider it for about 1/2 a second. He was totally surprised when I went ahead with Defenders instead (had them before and knew what I was getting). Once the owner retires, not sure how long the business will last.

My friend sold tires for 50 years, one year he got 100 Uniroyal snow tires, folks used to buy them before everybody and their brother had 4 wheel drive ;), he swears he got about 50 of them back for various failures.

I had a set that came on a car I bought, the rubber was so hard they shrieked during normal turning in an asphalt parking lot, it was embarrassing -- sounded like the Dukes of Hazard.

To their credit they did wear like iron, unfortunately they gripped like Astro-Glide...

Mine came with Firestone Destination LE 2 and so far been good on roads, snow and very quiet. I will probably replace them with the same. Prices are great.

My 2021 stock Firestone Destination LE3 tires are at 6/32 after 14,000 miles, are inflated properly and rotated every 5k.

Is that normal wear? I thought it would be much better than that. I discovered this after fking up one of the tires and had to replace it.

I do like the tire. It feels good, looks good, and performs well for what I do with it.

The le2 is different than the le3. The le2 wears out relatively quickly and has poor wet traction when worn. The le3 was made as an improvement in those areas
