How hard would it be to go from the stock 96 2wd to a prerunner? Are just talking arms, shocks, rear leafs etc?

Why not just put a lift on it? New coils, leafs, and shocks all around would pretty much be the same thing, sans the 6 lugs.

Who makes a lift for the base model Yota with the 14" rims? I dont mind regearing and upgrading rims/tires. Its prolly going to end up being my sons truck, so I would like to get it looking decent. Right now its in the middle age guy who dont give crap look. I've looked into the 4x4 swap, not doing that. If I can get some some bigger rims and tires on it I think he would be happy...atleast he doesnt like the lowrider look!

if its a 5 lug, you dont have many options...

you can try the old fabtech arms and coil lift but not too many places even carry it anymore...

other option is a leveling kit if just doing this for looks...

if you actually want to wheel the truck, long travel...

Wouldn't it be cheaper to sell yours & buy a prerunner.

as much as i hate dont like body lifts, if its just for looks a 3 inch body lift with the fabtech lift, would make the truck look pretty good.

Wow the Fabtech 5 lug is sweet looking. Do they make anything for a 20005+ base model in that look? Its just what I am looking to do with mine.

Its paid for, plus I will be buying me a truck :D. It runs great soI dont mind putting some $ in it,plus my son needs alittle wrench time, maybe he will be more apt to take care of it after he puts some sweat in it.

Thanks for the help and info! That looks like what I need.

Thats the plan, thanks to all the info here. Fabtechs website is saying 30"x9.5" tires will work with the 3.5" kit.
Which leaves me with a few more questions.
The truck is a 2.4,5spd with 14" tires. What gearing do I need to look at for the rear dif.? To get the gearing corrected for the upsize in tires. Will a center section from a 4x4 out of a boneyard with correct gearing bolt up?
I had very good luck with lok rite lockers in a Samurai I built 10 yrs ago or so, do they hold up in the Yotas? Once I get into the rear dif, I want to put a locker in too.

the differentials are different, so you would need to swap out the whole axle, not just the pumpkin...

Do you have any suggestion to gear ratio to look for? I am thinking the tire size I can upgrade to with this lift for my 2wd, would need a a 4x4 rear diff with 2.4/2.7 engine to correct gear ratio. A 30" tall tire should not be out of the stock 4x4 range, right? Another ?, if I do get a complete rear diff from a 4x4 or PreRunner, will I be looking @ Ujoint/driveshaft/6 or 5 lug issues?
Just tryin to cover the bases.

    driveshaft would need some modification...

i know of a 5 lug that was converted into a 6 lug... let me find out what changes were necessary...

might end up costing more than the truck is worth though...

i just recently saw a lift spindle for the 1st gen 5 lug for sale for $300...
