Update - lost about 2-3 mpg, power difference is pretty noticable on the highway, before when I could get up a hill in 6th, now need to go down to at least 5th. At about 3/4 turn of the wheel I can slightly rub on the fender very slightly. Might cut it or put a heat gun to it. Still worth the extra ground clearance and grip

Forgot to post here. All stock pro on 285s. Love it. Went from 265 wildpeaks to these. 42 miles one way to work. Still average over 20 mpg. Before it was around 22. Will gladly take the 2mpg hit. Looks killer with the 285s. No rub as well.

How do you get 20 mpg?! I get like 14 now with my 285s, stock I would get like 17. I guess the manual is geared different and also pushing a brick at 75 mph isn't very efficient

Keep shifts under 2000 rpm. Tire pressure at 35 psi to start, hot gets to like 38. I drive like a grandpa haha. South Carolina is pretty flat as well. I work in a federal prison, never in a rush to get to work....

Under 2000 rpm is like zero torque. Most of my driving is on the highway in 6th gear. At like 50 mph I used to get like 22 but at 75 the drag is I guess a lot

Where you able to make the mudflaps work? I'm taking delivery on a 2021 Pro in a few weeks and want to do this, but live in the PNW and mudflaps are definitely helpful :)

Congrats!! You will love it.... I took the fronts off, the OEM style didn’t work for me. Maybe rekgens or something similar may work, I may try them but not to sure yet

Hey all, my 2021 TRD Pro is in and I tried to get 285s installed. My dealer came back and told him the service department said it would rub. What gives?

Why would you get it installed at the dealer? Lol. They're not gonna let you do it.

LOL... i guess that's a good question. It's a pretty well known dealer in my area that is widely regarding as knowing what they are doing when working on Tacomas.

Maybe yours was built during the Texas Freeze and the alignment is screwed up.

Couldn’t help myself. But seriously maybe the alignment is off a tad. I’ve read hundreds of posts about this size and most had good luck, but there were some who reported rubbing and it was fixed with a heat gun and/or trimming off the little plastic tab on the rear portion of the wheel well liner.

And when I say “off a tad”, it’s likely still in spec. Some are just better than others and result in no rubbing.

Which tire were you trying? Some are 33.1” and others are 32.7-32.8”. Same with the width. Some are wider than others. From what I read the small difference can actually make the difference between rubbing or not.

some places won’t put oversized tires on your vehicle (Toyota dealerships, Costco...to name a few). You’ll have to go to a local tire shop like America’s Tires or a mom/pop local tire shop. Off road shops will know best on how to properly balance the tires. You’ll also possibly need an alignment to increase the caster if rubbing near the cab mount.
