Definitely a lift over stock and a mpg hit. The biggest difference is the immediate feel, certainly harder to turn the tires but that’s expected in contrast to the stock size. I might consider 4.88s once I get a compressor to get the front locker in too. Personally, I see no reason to go any bigger.

I have zero regrets after 5k of miles with 285/75/16s on my stock pro. Perfect size for them.

What are the major changes you noticed if you don't mind me asking?

Less get up from a dead stop. Besides that nothing really. I was 265/75/16s before. I drive 100 miles day round trip to work and my mileage went down maybe 1 mpg. Still gettin 20-22 mpg and before it was 21-23 mpg.

I noticed rotating them last weekend they are heavier hahaha. It’s the perfect size for these trucks though. I passed a tractor trailer the other day and used ect button and it had plenty of power to pick up and pass. Then I remembered I was on 285s and really happy about it. The power loss is minimal imo.

Ya a bunch. No rub at full stuff or lock. Granted they are 285/75/16 but not quite a 33 like a duratrac in the same size. The function perfect though being a 32.9 inch tire.

After a weekend of casual driving, a few observations:
Rubbing on the UCA when flexed. Slight, but noticeable. Inside of tire wall contact. Planning on spacers to fix this.
Rubbing when reversing in a strong turn. Not sure on contact point, but has to be the edge of the tire somewhere. Low priority considering this is an uncommon situation. Probably fender liner.

Very minor drop in low end power felt, barely perceptible by butt dyno.
Yes, loud road noise. Good thing I'm always blasting metal.

Aired to 35 psi, about 4.5ish mph off, 75 on the dash and 80 on GPS. Smooth, very quiet and civil on the road. I’ve driven truck with Trail Grapplers and this is night and day difference. Drives straight, no wandering and drove it on the wet road with proper traction. No rubbing UCA or fenders anywhere although I have only been on flat surfaces and in and out of driveways. Able to mount and balance at a friends house where he has all the machines, 2 tires took 1 ounce each, .75 ounce and one took a couple of ounces. You’d never know you were on these more aggressive tires. They look amazing and I can’t wait to take them off road and really put them to use. Of course my friend thought it would be funny to put my caller ID name on the shipping labels, he always does that to me - lol. Can’t complain cause I get a great deal on all Nitto tires. Will get more pictures after a wash and detail but I am one happy camper now

Super happy with the fitment, look, non-existent road noise and ease of installation. I was nervous for the longest time about the probability of rubbing but now I am stress free. I only wish I pulled the trigger sooner, but as far as the loss of initial get-up and go, I have not felt anything noticeable or annoying. Again I am not doing drag launches at every stop light and stop sign but the initial acceleration feels good still, I mean still underpowered but not any worse.

yes, that’s my good friends NSX. He designed and welded a very amazing full titanium aero kit front and rear. One hell of a metal fab guy, builds everything himself

Might be a dumb question but does a 285/75r16 fit in the spare area just fine?

depending on how quick you bring it up you might have to push it away from the exhaust a little bit, but a 33" spare fits. I've got 255s on my truck (also 33s) and it's not an issue. The 285s are an inch wider than the 255s (so under the truck, 1" deeper under the bed) and so they fit too. Plenty of pics of 285s under Tacos on here if you want to dig around.

Hey Everyone, been enjoying reading this thread. I’m basically a newb even though I’ve had the tacoma for a couple years. Question, I’m looking at Toyo Open Country AT3 285/75 16s. I’m not worried about the tire in the wheel well as much as the tire on the stock Pro rim. It’s 7” and the recommended wheel size is 7.5” or greater. Same goes for Falken Wildpeaks. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter much, since none of you have brought it up yet. Do I need to be concerned?? Thanks!
