Just drove my '23 TRD Sport access cab off the lot (last one I could find within 500 mile radius!). First Tacoma, and absolutely stoked to be joining the club!

I know I'll get some "use the search" responses, but I literally have 20 tabs open in my browser trying to makes sense of this all, and could use some advise if anyone is bored on a Sunday morning...

My only real *need* right now is getting e-rated tires ASAP in advance of picking up a heavy camper.

But then "needs" gets muddied with "wants" and now I'm shopping for rims.

Love the look of the 17" Pro/SEMAs in matte black or glossy gunmetal. But seems like there's conflicting reports on whether you need to grind down the rear hubs. Guess my question here is specific to '23 model?

In general the plan for now (and it changes by the HOUR), is to stay mostly stock suspension wise - the only caveats being airbags / cradles, and beefier rear springs. Again, purely for weight reasons.

Have run ko2's on previous rigs, and will stick with what I know. So, my current thinking is some 265-70-17s onto the stock rims until I can source the rims for a decent price. But maybe the cost to mount / balance twice negates any potential savings?

I *think* this all works for my application, with worse case being some rubbing on the mudflaps at full turn every once in a while.

Appreciate any thoughts before pulling the trigger.

The Sema wheels do not have fitment issues. Fitment issues come from using 2021 4Runner wheels on a Tacoma. 2021 4Runner wheels are not the same as the Sema wheels. None of it is Tacoma year specific, the problem is the late 4runner wheels not fitting the Tacoma properly.

mount and balance and moving from one set of rims to another is probably not too expensive. The decision should be based more financially on what you can handle now. If you can handle the cost of wheels and tires now, go ahead and do it and save the hassle, and maybe some money depending on how much the labor is. If you don’t want to pay for it all now, the cost of labor later won’t be THAT bad, just consider it part of the wheel purchase. Personally, I would do it all now because I don’t like to disturb a set of tires once they’re installed and balanced well.

Yes, you will rub mud flaps with Semas and 265/70R17. It will happen on turns where you either brake or hit a bump. It was enough to annoy me but I’m picky. Many remove the flaps but I didn’t want to do that. I ended up going backwards from you and traded my Semas for sport rims. I now run 255/75R17 (32.1”) on stock suspension and they don’t rub the flaps ever. It’s great. But, it helps that I actually really like the sport rims. Be aware that the offset of the Semas will have you flinging a decent amount of dirt onto your doors and such due to them putting the tread just right at the edge of
the mud flaps. Not a huge deal, but it annoyed me.

Great, thanks for the clarity on SEMA / 4R. Believe what I'm trying to track down them, are these? https://parts.longotoyota.com/oem-p...minum-one-piece-flat-black-17x7j-ptr5689210f2

And yeah wish I loved the look of the Sport rims. Shame we didn't chat when you were looking to trade down ;)

Those are the ones that have problems. You’re looking for PTR20-35110-GR or PTR20-35110-BK.

Lol, all in the eye of the beholder. My graphite wheels on my gray truck looked like a big gray blob. A good looking gray blob, but a blob nonetheless. Combined with the other factors like rubbing and spraying dirt on my doors, they just weren’t for me. I do think bronze would have looked cool but the other issues kept me away so I chose Sports. There’s a choice for everyone!

Both styles are 4Runner, just consider them 4Runner old vs 4Runner new. You need old.
