The same shit everyone else has.
Its about that time again, time to replace the current set of tires with a new set.

The last 2 sets Ive put on the truck have both been 265/70/17s Duratracs.

Im thinkin about finally making the step to a set of 285 Duratracs.

    Wheels -

    - Stock TRD Sport wheels
    - 1.25" Spidertrax spacers

Front suspension - Roughly 3" lift

    - 5100s set at .85
    - Eibach springs
    - 1/4" top plates
    - Light Racing UCAs set at +2

Rear suspension - Roughly 2" lift

    - TSB springs
    - Wheelers HD 3 leaf add a leaf
    - .5" blocks

The truck still has mud flaps and the cab mounts have not been touched.

I can get the front tires to rub the mudflaps if I try.

Im not against removing the mud flaps and trimming the flares/fender liners to make the tires fit.

I know Ive seen a handful of people running TRD Sport wheels on 285s.

Id love to hear some real world input on fitting 285s with stock Sport wheels. What did you have to modify? Trim? Whats your alignment look like?

    Thanks

With a TRUE 3" lift, 285/70/17 will fit with wheel spacers, they won't rub on UCA's. Mud flaps will have to go! I Ran 285/70/17 with Toyota Trail Team OEM wheels that have an additional 15mm offset with no problems rubbing on UCA.

    BTW...
I switched from BFG to Amp Off-Road A/T Pro tires last year, HIGHLY recommend them!

Wondering the same. I have SCS F5s now, wanting to go back to more of an OEM+ look. I removed my mudflaps, and trimmed the lower portion of my inner fender liner.

You're going to have to trim if you cycle your suspension because the problem isn't how much lift or backspacing you have or what your alignment specs are, the wheel well is just too small for 285s.

Plan on hammering the pinch weld at minimum and a cab mount chop will be needed if you wheel. If you don't cycle you suspension much and can deal with some rub then you might get by without a cab mount chop.

CMC if you do any amount of off road driving.

I just put on a 2.5" OME lift and SPS UCA. BFG KO2 285/70/17 on new 17" TRD wheels and spacers were added (can't remember the spacer size) had full alignment.

With this set up I'm getting a slight rub on the cab mount (before full lock) just driving on the road. Going to try an additional strut spacer but looks like a CMC is the only proper solution if I want full cycling of the suspension.

OEM Mud flaps will not fit but there are after market solutions.

    Hope this helps.

I agree. CMC is a must. Especially with 285s with wheels with any negative offset. Like stated, if you dont wheel as much, you may be okay.

    Thanks for the input.

Im now debating on a set of aftermarket wheels - 16x8 et0 - and 285s instead.

    Decisions decisions.

No chop here. Yes, had to trim liner and lose flaps, but no mount chop.

I had the same thought pattern, that's why I went with the FJ Trail Team wheels, as close to OEM as I could find that would work. I just gave those KM2'S in the pic to a friend, still have the wheels, if your around Louisiana you can try them out if you like them I'll make a deal for them, if not, no biggy.

With a 16" wheel, that would only put you at about at a 31" tire. Almost back to stock.

    Why not 275s?
Falkens or BFGs both good looking tires.

Thought you were talking about 285/70/17 Vs 285/70/16. My bad.
