I've used tamper resistant fasteners on all of my bed mounted accessories in an attempt to either discourage or slowdown the unsavory elements. There are many different bolt styles and sizing to fit our needs. I may look are securing other accessories in the near future.

    McMaster Carr:
    Stainless Steel Tamper-Resistant Button Head Torx Screws, 3/8"-16 Thread, 2" - 91900A660
    Tamper-Resistant Breakaway Nut, 3/8"-16 - 90013A225

Also, I have added all of the bolt on parts, including suspension pieces, to my insurance policy. $5000 of accessory coverage cost me $240/yr. RTT and Dometic fridge are covered under my home owners insurance if I decide to hit them up in case of a loss. This is all in preparation of a total loss due to left of the vehicle or a major catastrophe. If someone comes along and boosts a part or 2 its probably in my best financial interests to just eat the loss.

I have already started doing the same thing. I have a ton of stainless M6, M8, 1/4-20 and 3/8 security screws, washers, split washers, and breakaway nuts. I spend a good bit at McMaster-Carr to have the peace of mind. They have 18-8, 308, and 316 stainless available, but not all in the security screws.

Wow, CA is a failed state, you can't even leave the sprinkler on the end of the water hose out on your yard. I had several of them stolen from my yard where I used to live and it was a nice neighborhood also. Sorry to hear about your friends bumper, hope it's found soon.

    It's complicated.
Having been to Saudi Arabia, I'm of the mind that perhaps cutting off the hand of a thief isn't necessarily the worst idea...

If you did that someone from the government would be along shortly after the theft to issue you a fine for the water wasted running out of the end of the hose where the stolen sprinkler was.

This post has increased my desire to have a dash cam. Looking at 360˚ cameras and there just isn't much out there.

Anything under $950 is a misdemeanor and the DA's Office won't prosecute misdemeanors because they have way to many felony cases they are dealing with out here. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Red loctite is a cost effective way to secure many bolt on items without having to spend $$$ on expensive fasteners. Red loctite requires the use of heat (i.e. Map gas, propane torch) to melt away the glue that bonds to the threads. I wasn't able to break loose a 1/2" nut that I secured with red loctite even with a 14"long, 1/2" drive ratchet. A little bit of heat from a torch, it came off every easily.

I totally agree! The only concern is we the tax payers might have to pay their welfare/general relief for their lifetime. :annoyed:

Red locktite is no match against a 1/2" battery impact with 1000ftlb of breakaway torque.

That’s fucked up. I don’t know which is worse. Getting your front plate bumper stolen, or getting your shocks stolen and impairable to drive
