My spare was stolen yesterday. Sucks! Looks like they cut the cable to get it out of there. I noticed the flared out piece that holds the tire up there laying on the ground today. Knew exactly what happened when I saw it laying there. I've heard of this happening to others. So pissed. But then, the clouds parted and the God Rays shined upon my Taco. I noticed a note in a ziplock back on my windshield. A neighbor apparently saw this happen (in the middle of the afternoon, no-less) and wrote down the thief'en bastards Licence Plate Number! Yeeeeessssssss. They will be caught. I can't wait. I wish I could find out who the jerk off was that took it and go kick the shit out of THEIR car. Dirt Bag.

So, anyone know a good resource for finding a suitable spare tire and replacement kit for the hoist that keeps it up there? Maybe a good tire lock to boot?

This is the first time I ever heard of a spare being stolen. Sucks.

As far as the mechanism that keeps in place, you'll most likely have to find it at a salvage yard or the dealer. Aren't too many options out there unless you want it mounted in your bed. Good luck.

I flipped my spare so I could get to the valve easier and when I did that I added a cable and a lock and lock that sucker to the frame. It can still be stolen but they have a wee bit more work to get it loose. Hose clamp your tailgate too.

obviously not a fail-safe for a determined thief but a visible deterrent to make them think twice and move on to the next vehicle.

Make sure you keep that lock well greased. Highway driving will force rain past the seals on the lock.

Bingo. It's looking for the sensor in the spare. You'll need a new sensor and need the dealer to do a calibration thing after it's installed.

I unfortunately don't know any details beyond that. I've lived with the dash light for years now.

Maybe you can drive around and when the light goes off you have found your thief! It's good to know you have good neighbors that will keep an eye out. In my neighborhood the theif would have crawled out from under the truck with a 9mm in stuck in their ear until the cops showed up.

Make the crooks pay for it. No matter how long it takes (small claims court). Make a example out of them. Let us know how it turns out.

+1. Hasn't happened to me, but I've read about folks being unable to change the spare because the lock rusted shut.

Sure did. Detective is supposed to call me this week. Im hoping it's the real theif's car or plate, and not somebody else's car, stolen car or even stolen plates.

And I am with you guys. Ill take this dude to small claims for sure. No reason not to.
