Actually a thief would just break the glass, unlock the door with the button, and drive off. With the carbide tip on my knife, it would take me just a few seconds.

Moral of the story: leaving it running is asking for trouble.

That just be new because I believe I've tried that. Although I didn't try it with the fob in the same hand as I'm using to lock the truck (thus putting the fob inside during the locking), I suppose. Usually the door will lock and unlock immediately. Prior to remote start I had to make sure only the driver's door was unlocked and lock it manually.

But, again, if they get in your truck can be driven away as if the fob were in it. You'll get a warning that the fob isn't present but it doesn't shut off and functions as normal.

I work for a valet. The amount of people who make 70k+ a year that leave their keys behind would blow your mind. Theyll ignore the warning on the dash that says "keys not located in the vehicle" and just drive off. There's a reason manufacturers have programmed them to beep and honk.

This sounds like the only option. Do you know where the beeper is by any chance?
I get what a lot of you are saying. It’s not a big deal and you’re worried about the trucking being stolen but for me, I take care of swimming pools. Having the truck getting stolen out of a rich person‘s driveway is not an issue. A lot of times I just have to get out to go check something in the backyard by the pool for a minute. I’d rather just leave it running. Trying to get in and out quick. Rather not announce to the client that I am there and have them come out and engage in a lengthy discussion. Or more importantly bother them with a beeping noise.
Just an option they could obviously create very easily as I have reduced the lock beep volume all the way down. But that doesn’t lower the truck still running beep noise. Make it a somewhat difficult option to access so the average person who doesn’t leave the key with the valet person doesn’t turn off the beeping on accident.
I get some safety features not being able to be turned off but this doesn’t seem like a life or death type of thing. Just more so inconvenient although I’m sure someone can come up with a situation that would make it life or death.
And yes, I will live despite my first world problem.
