This is my first thread on here, im happy to have joined the club with a 2012 prerunner. My question to you all is what do you use your bed storage boxes for? Ive heard some say they like to put jumper cables or rope inside, but im wondering what else theyre good for?

Just got my first Taco a couple months ago after driving Tundras for several years. I have a couple cargo straps in one side and that's about it. I intend to check in a few random bungees as well. The jump box it's behind the rear seat.

Cargo straps and the rear diff breather on the drivers side and fuses, switches, and plugs for bed lights and anytime power on the passenger side. I pulled out the boxes and sealed up the openings to cut down on dust and water that gets in them.

If you don't have a locking topper, I wouldn't put anything in there that I couldn't afford to lose. I keep a HF tarp in one side and some bungee and rope in the other.

I like to keep a fleshlight in there. You never know when you’re going to need one.

@Domprerun, we camp a lot. I have a 2nd gen too...the outlet is standard on the TRD offroad, pro, and sport models (maybe the limited too). The problem with the factory plug is that it only has power when the truck is on. I ran power to the bed from the battery that I can turn on whenever. There is one 12v plug to power a fridge and two high output usb plugs with a voltmeter that are run off one switch and I added LED lighting to the underside of the shell as well that runs off the second switch.

Here's a link to where I started the project in my build thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ld-and-ramblings.452204/page-22#post-20091050

The lighting and constant power have been game changers. This pic was taken around midnight the night before a trip and it's like daylight back there.

I keep my recovery shackle/hitch insert and NRS straps in the driver side, and a variety of shackles, straps and bungees in the passenger side. I seemed up the drain holes in both and added closed cell foam to the lower engagement slots for the covers. Helps keep out road-spray, salt, dust, etc. My diff breather is behind the tail light.

Straps in one, bungees in the other. Jumper cables behind the back seat. Ball hitch and trailer light adapter under the back seat.
