Lots of people in the south got hit hard by last night's storms. I figured I would start this short-term thread to see if anyone may need some help, and perhaps a TW member nearby might be able to offer assistance. We fared fair enough last night. Lost power at midnight and have been out since. No power and no DSL connection. I am at the shop right now. Lots of debris on the roads but I think from what I read the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Huntsville areas got hit the worst in our state anyway.

I'm in middle-GA and we had some downed limbs, but nothing too severe. I thing North GA got hit harder than us folks down south

Everything is cool in the Memphis area, I am in North Mississippi and the imediate area just got minor flooding from all the rain, but there is damage being reported all around us like over at Tupelo (i know we have at least 1 TW member that lives there too) and lots of damage over in Arkansas along I40 between Memphis and Little Rock.

The day before yesterday during our hardest rain storms I decided to get out and go for a drive. There was lots of flooded roads and I even stopped to help a woman that was stranded in her flooded Maxima. So I got out and waded in the knee deep water, hooked up to her and pulled her out. Though she spoke very little english, she was very grateful for my help. I wound up with a stick lodged in my front skid just above my tow hook witch made me think....... how deep did I actually take my truck????? Im worried i have water in my rear diff now, since I have been lazy and been putting off doing the diff breather mod. So thats my plan today, to get the diff oil changed and get that damn mod done. LOL

You guys about to get hit have my sympathy and prayers to the places that already got lit up by tornados. There have been some crazy weather patterns going on lately!

Got a lot of rain and lightning, and spent many hours last night watching the tornado warnings. But I don't see much damage except for some downed trees.

I'm more concerned about the coming storms that they claim are going to be worse.

    Thanks Beavis!

And thanks to everyone else for speaking up. Glad to hear so far that most seem to be faring well. The house here is still without power. Power company said a tree fell on a line near our house, but it will be this afternoon before they can get it repaired. Of course by then the afternoon storms will be here, and they may not be able to do it. Gonna suck for sure.

Tornado touched down about 20 Miles from my house. Stayed on the ground for over 1.5 hrs and was almost a mile wide. Last count was 18 dead and countless numbers of houses destroyed. It's sad to see it happen in real time on the radar but what they were showing the other night... you knew it was going to be bad.

Welcome to spring. First of many to come.

Yes that is real. 3/4 inch plate steal with basically a safety cage built inside for added strength. It's bolted through our foundation with 16 Hilti bolts that expand as you tighten them. I keep 2 external hard drives with all our family photos, internet site ID's, pictures of the contents of the house, etc... along with our safe. In 2008 we had a house 2 houses down from us have the roof taken off by a tornado that killed 6 people. It was literally directly across the street from our house when I looked out the front door.

Picture of the door. It probably weighs 350 lbs and has two 1" slide locks and a dead bolt lock also.

$3500 with $1000 FEMA rebate that you get about 6 months later. So total cost with tax is / was $2500.

^^ that looks really nice. how many will it hold? and great idea of keeping copys of family photos and all that on a hard drive in the safe.

It’s a great idea to have one if you live in an area that gets a lot of tornados. We don’t get to many here in east TN, if we do it dose not stay on the ground long with all the hills and mountains around, and dose not usually have winds over 100 to 110mph. thats still fast but no 150+ usually the winds are 100 or less, and take trees down.

It's 5x5 so it will hold "my" family. I told my wife to not answer the door if a storm comes. I realize that may sound heartless but we can not save the entire neighborhood. Everyone knows we have one and they are within their right to buy one. I bought this for "our" safety. No one else's.

i don’t think we are suppose to get hail tonight. the truck is back home though. so i hope no hail...
not bad. and yeah i kinda agree with you. plus i’m sure the bigger they are the more $$$$ they are, got to protect your family before the neighbors.

now if you just had one that was like 12x10 or something ya maybe since you may have room.

Thats not bad at all! Wow... good to know that kind of thing exists, if I'm ever in an area where I might need it and have a family, I would definitely look into it.

For me, family safety is #1. Not having a family of my own yet, I wouldn't need something like that. But $2500 seems like a no brainer if it were to protect my wife and kids.

If you don't have a basement, that is what you need for protection. Even if you do have a basement, that thing is a hell of a lot safer.

That's actually less than I thought you were going to say. I'd say that's a pretty small price to potential keep your family safe. I'm interested in one now. Who did you get it through?
