I'm weighing out different exhaust options right now, and straight pipe has come up. Has anybody done it? If so, post some sound clips. Did it change your gas mileage any?

I believe it's no catalytic converter, muffler stays on

I did this to my exhaust a few months ago, and like others have said. It was way too loud ( annoying ). My MPG went from 22 - 23 to a whopping 15 - 17 MPG Hwy/City and the low end torque was weak! I do not recommend doing this! Sorry no sound clipps, but trust me it makes your taco sound like shit!!

I have since welded my Cat Converter back on!

I just got done taking my cat out and replacing my stock muffiler with a super 44 flowmaster but it was way to loud so I installed a 18 inch resonator and it sounds great.

Depends on how you do it... I had my CAT stolen off my '92 and replaced the empty section with a piece of straight pipe, 2.5" running through a Flowmaster 40 to the tail. Sounded pretty good. Too loud for the old guys though. Loud pipes save lives!

A straight pipe on anything less than a V8 will sound like a rice burner....it will just sound obnoxious and annoying. Why not just run a nice free flowing straight through muffler like AT or Wicked Flow? Then you get the best of both worlds, nice free flowing exhaust without the obnoxiousness.

I had straight pipe for a couple of days while assembling my new exhauset. Got noise? Got rattle? Got cop magnet? Mileage and performance down.

x2. Had a 4 cyl. '97 Tacoma and thought it was cool to not have a muffler. Looking back, I realize how bad it sounded and how obnoxious it was.

Don't put a straight pipe on it for all the reasons mentioned above.
