Meaning they never actually diagnosed the issue and you may not need a new motor, or meaning they never started the replacement process? Either way, enjoy the loaner - its their problem now.

If I were you I wouldn't take the passive approach anymore. Figure out WTF is going on at that shit show or tow it to another dealer.

The flipside is you had a free car for 3 weeks.

THIS, or it could be this dealer won't accept doing any work for this warranty company till they're assure they will pay their hourly labor rate, and cost of materials. In many states the dealer is allowed to charge a profit on parts.

Vexing, but might work out in your favour. Being you've waited longer than you should someone might be inclined to help more than usually..here's hoping

Not what I expected to read! Sorry to hear that man! You might want to have it towed elsewhere at this point...

I once worked part time for a few years for a power equipment company that sold everything from riding tractors to snowmobiles. Some customers bought extended warranties from companies outside of the manufactures, that were sold at the company I worked for. My shops boss wouldn't honor many of these contracts till these warranty companies would pay his going rate....and many wouldn't. The customer was either sol, or would need to drive a zillion miles to the guy that would do it.

Am I wrong for thinking that the now fired service manager may have escalated this to an engine replacement for his own benefit(commission). I just keep thinking about my break down on the 15th of July. Nothing indicated an engine failure. I have spoken to the warranty company. They have been very helpful and assure me they are ready to honor the claim.

Not wrong at all for thinking that, it is most certainly possible, imo, not saying probable but definitely possible. He was let go for other reasons I’m sure. I would share your concerns with the Dealer Manager (or who ever runs the place), as well as corporate, just get them out there officially.

Not at all, thats why I asked what I asked. You should get clarification if "the teardown never started" meant a diagnosis was never actually given, or a replacement teardown has not begun.

If thats the case, something here doesn't pass the smell test. Either the dealer is jerking you around, or the warranty company is bs-ing you. At any rate I'd get my truck out of there immediately, and see another dealer.

Thats kinda my thoughts as well. We (OP) don't really know anything, and the information we do know stems from a GM that is allegedly not trustworthy, so the entire diagnosis is in question at this point. Repairs and rentals are entirely different issues, so you can't really blame the entire dealerships inability to find resolve the issue/track rentals on one person. I'd also be looking for another dealer. My opinion is with no true diagnosis of a problem, the dealer may choose to drag you around about an engine replacement/fight with warranty company on an issue that may not even warrant a replacement, and this wastes so much of your time/doesn't get your truck back to you anytime soon.

It sounds like speaking to the warranty company, they are ready to go. Take it to another dealer and let them, AFTER (and IF) the new dealer finds sufficient evidence that its even needed.

this is what I am wondering.
I would simply ask the warranty company if they want to have it towed somewhere else, and stay out of the employee situation at the current shop. The warranty company probably wants this closed just as quickly and to reduce your rental bill as well.

Only issue I see here is the warranty company could be telling the dealer they're ready to go as long as the dealer meets the cost of what this warranty company figures should cover it. I can tell you I've run into that where it just can't be done unless your willing to eat some of your costs.

And if is the case, the dealer SHOULD be able to very clearly communicate this to the customer, explaining that it may be taking longer than expected, but its not because its falling through the cracks, or the dealerships falling apart. In which case, it may just be the dealer falling apart.
