I would be inclined to reach out directly to the GM and/or owner to ask questions. You're unlikely to get the owner himself, but his executive assistant has a lot of authority at most dealerships. Back in 2020 when I couldn't get sales to call me back about wanting to test drive a Tacoma I emailed the owner and asked why. He didn't reply, but his assistant did and about an hour later the sales manager called and apologized.

If none of that works, then by all means find another dealer.

3+ weeks in limbo I would be climbing up a wall somewhere it's time to get this thing fixed/assessed. The fact that it hasn't been done yet is insane.

bingo. If the dealer doesn’t have a plan for you in writing of next steps I’d be towing your truck to dealer B now.

Agreed, you would think so, hearing a definite confirmation from the dealer by now that the truck has been diagnosed, and what has to be done to repair it. It's been 3 weeks...for whatever reason, someone has drooped the ball, or the dealer and warranty company are at an impasse. Hate to say it this way, but if the case, op needs to get the truck to someone that this warranty company recommends, and hope a good job is done.

This reminds of my 83 kdx200 dirt bike I bought at this new Kawasaki dealer. The engine was defective from the get-go, and seized up bending a rod. The bike was in warranty in which the dealer took it back, and dissembled the engine, then placed all the parts in a plastic tub. They ordered all the components needed, but thats were progress stopped to a halt for reasons unknown. Lucky I had another race bike...this kawi engine sat in that tub for 2 months as I was jerked around it would be done next week. Well it never was. I ended up going back to this dealer, pulling it out, and signing off on the warranty. Took it back home, and put it back together that night. Had it back in the bike running the next morning. Never did business with that dealer again.....funny thing they were gone a year later.

I actually took off work at lunch today and went there to talk to the GM. He approached me with” you can just take your truck somewhere else” “ we obviously can not satisfy you” you have called everyday every 5 minutes. “ we did what you asked. We got rid of the problem” I was in total shock. I asked him who he thought he was being so unprofessional. He made sure all this was away from any other people. I have not called but once in over a week. He changed his attitude once someone else walked up. Then goes in and in about how they are the best and assured me that it will get fixed. But they have 4 people out with Covid. IMAGINE THAT!!
Top end of the engine is torn down now and he actually called to apologize before I got home. And told me they discovered the timing chain had broke. And it should also be covered. Not sure at this point if there is other damage or if that was the only isssue to begin with.

Wowsers… what a jerk. Did he realize he was wrong, they have had the truck for weeks, you called a few times only, etc?

He did call and apologize. Told me that he hated coming across like that. I caught him at a bad time. If and when I get this truck back I will let them know and everyone around me know how I feel about this dealership and why. At this point 3 weeks in my engine is in pieces so I’m at their mercy.

This. You're exactly right. I hope that marketing person got a big raise.

Toyota Japan was the first large scale company to implement LEAN manufacturing. And while quality is a large part of it, it is not the focus.

Much like when GM screwed me over on a warranty job many years ago I told the corporate rep that told me to pound sand I can cost you guys a lot more than you pocketed with this deception so let's play

Sucks that you're at their mercy with a halfway torn apart truck. Sounds like this guy is the true problem. Every state has a local FB group with toyota/tacoma enthusiasts, a regional thread on here, etc; when its through, tell the world your story. And people wonder why we (enthusiasts) hate the dealers and have no trust in them. Sure, not all of them operate like this, but the majority do..

I’m still not sure about timing chain breaking … 3 years on this forum. And that’s the first time I have heard of this …

Agreed, and I am not sure about this shop,,,, and doubt I am the only one. But agree, the OP is in a jam and probably needs to be careful while a big job is in limbo,,, I would let the warranty company do their job and be "Louie the Leg-breaker"

7 weeks in and they have just now ordered the engine replacement. This dealership has been a total shit show. Warranty tells me if it wasn’t torn apart they would ask it to be moved to another shop. It’s not gonna cost me any money and I have been driving a free loaner car. So things could be worse for sure. But zero communication. And nearly 5 weeks to discover that the timing chain broke and the engine imploded its self, maybe it’s me, maybe I expect too much.
