Nah, the engine doesn't make enough magic glitter to kill itself without a filter.

I was talking with a buddy thats an automotive shop owner, he told me he heard of a 3.5 in a 2020 that just locked up while on the highway not long ago. While it does happen, toyota has millions of these out there, so someones is going to be the unlucky one to fail.

Boy oh boy there are some negative people on this post . It could be anything . It’s not always major lol. Why doesn’t everyone wait I until they see what’s wrong? There are tons of sensors on theses trucks that can fail . To the OP good luck and keep us posted on what happens .

Electrical issue, battery is so flat it won't even crank over the engine. Engine light came on because the engine didn't have enough electrical juice to stay running.

I guess someone has not heard there's an alternator in these trucks that can keep them running.

I'm thinking something simple. A bad alternator is a real possibility.

Years ago I was driving the company flatbed back from a field job. Out of nowhere the dash went full christmas tree and the engine went to a sputtering, seizing stop in the middle of the interstate. I thought for sure that I just broke the truck.

Turns out, a small ground wire had gotten loose to the point where the radiator fan ingested it and chopped it clean. That was it. 20 dollar fix, $500 tow.

In a lot of ways this kind of failure is the absolute worst, because you don't know. It could be a $20 fix or it could be fubar'd. None of us know. If there's a warranty, at least that takes the stress off not knowing.

3 pages of comments and what someone thinks the problem is. No telling!! Another example of the complexity of today's vehicles. I'm old. I can remember when if something like this happened, you had a 80%-100% chance of knowing what it was because it was always 1 or 2 things. Not today!! Tech is great but it is also screwy.... :)

Thats a pretty far stretch. I can't remember the last time I had an alternator failure in a toyota. My 2001 tundra alternator was still fine after 19 years, and nearly 300k miles. In fact I've never had a toyota alternator crap out.
Wonder if the engine hydro-locked for some reason.

Yeah, anything is possible, that said I'd put my money that its a mechanical issue related to the engine.

I’ve had this happen in two different vehicles (old BMW and old Hyundai) when I was stationed overseas, was an alternator both times. It’s likely something simple like that.

I doubt its a blown engine. Certainty an electronic issue somewhere, since you mentioned there were no noises, engine is still full of oil, and the oil looks fine.
