Stranded with a key that won't turn in the ignition.

First time in 12 years. The key won't turn. It's happened before but it's always turned eventually. After 20 or so minutes I'm ready to call a locksmith.

Just needed to vent...

 

Maybe next time get a new key once you start to have issues, no after your stranded lol

 

Try turning the wheel some in either direction while trying to turn the key.

 

Been there, done that. Funny thing, the steering wheel should've locked with how much I've turned it, but it's not.
Got some wd 40 in the lock too... No joy

Edit: nvm...i got the wheel to lock. Wtf

If you knew it was a problem,you should have taken care of it before.

 

that happened with my 1gen, I had the locksmith rebuild the ignition switch, sorry I dont remember how much it was but I remember it was really reasonable.

 

spare key? the teeth will wear out on keys and wont turn the ignition or door locks

 

Not disagreeing with you... It's happened twice before in the last year. It's happened twice today. At the dealer getting a key made from the code. No transponder. I'll use the old key for the immobilizer.

 

And the spare is a couple hours away... What a way to begin vacation...

 

I’ve had to mess with the wheel a few times myself.
Hope the key fix’s it and the vacation goes good!

 

It did not. Getting a taxi to bring us home and me back with a drill, bits, and tools...

 

Well that sucks where you at maybe someone close could help you out.

So, if i remove the lock assembly from the steering column, can i remove the switch from the lock assembly?

 

Good you are taking care of it,hide a spare (GOOD) key under your truck somewhere.
