Hey all. I'm having a weird issue with some of the dash lighting in the 05 Taco I just bought. The lighting for the automatic transmission gear selector in the center counsel (P R N D 4 etc) doesn't light up nor do the dials for the heater/AC when driving at night (with the lights on), but both of those things light up when you disarm the alarm system. So the bulbs aren't burnt out, and they obviously *can* receive power. All other instrument lights work fine. Help!

PS. I searched and found this thread, which seems to indicate that those things should be illuminated. --> http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/21208-lighted-shift-selector-2.html

Since no one has spoken up yet, I'll at least say that someone likely didn't install the alarm correctly. Since they don't come with alarms from the factory, it's an aftermarket install. You might try getting a copy of the installation instructions for your alarm system then trace the wires to see where they were connected (correctly or incorrectly).

Hmmm, I was wondering if it had something to do with the alarm... Thanks for the suggestion. So they didn't come with alarms? The remote for the alarm has a Toyota symbol on it, so I assumed it came with it.

All the toyota alarms are installed aftermarket. The dealerships usually have one company they use to install the alarms. Around here in Sacramento, it's a business called Dealerworks. They install things like sunroofs, heated seats, alarms, etc. Some of these things aren't available from the factory, but they're added on by the dealership.
