So to start, I'm an idiot.

I noticed a ding on my hood a few days after I bought the truck. (2 years ago).

I'm pretty sure the dealership sold it to me with the hood ding, but I didn't make a fuss because again, I'm an idiot. I also thought I might want a hood scoop someday. Turns out I dont.

It's a strange ding, doesn't look like it ever came from impact, more like a blemish in the factory paint job perhaps. In 2 years it hasn't gotten worse, seems like clear coat is covering it.
Also weird, it hasn't gotten better in the last 2 years, go figure.

I kept meaning to to get it sorted, but at every scheduled maintenance I forgot to bring it up.

Fast forward to this week, and I just noticed another similar one on the front right quarter panel, and again, it looks like factory paint issue, not the usual ding you get from rocks on the highway.

I will be taking it to the dealership, but before I do, I'd love to get a proper TW education on what you think might have caused these, and what my options may be to get sorted out.

Anyone pick up their new truck with these kinds of blemishes?

If the clear coat is failing, they may honor the warranty. It is definitely worth asking.

    That'll be a hard sell.

The good news is that I know a guy in Asheville who will fix that up in 2 hours for about $200. Come on down and I'll buy us breakfast while you wait.

That's a tempting offer, but I'm not ready for a cross country drive just yet. Maybe after I talk to the dealership.

    Yeah.
So, do both of those spots feel smooth, with clear coat over the top? If so, it looks like something may have dripped on the truck when they were applying the color, and the paint pulled away from it. Could even have been water. You have waited a while, but if it is clearly not external damage, it may be a warranty item.

That sucks! I'm interested in the outcome as I have the same color. I traded in a 2017 VW Passat for this truck due to a paint issue that they wouldn't fix (only had the car 10 months). Would hate to have another paint issue.

Looks like paint crazing from brake fluid.

Definitely looks like chemical crazing. Brake cleaner. Acetone. Nail polish remover.

I've been in the car business for 10 years and seen this many times... it could be something else but to me that looks like exactly what happens when a dealer has an aging unit at their storage lot, birds shit on it, and the birdshit bakes in the sun for MONTHS. A good dealership has porters go out and clean the storage cars every week or two to prevent this, but a lot of crappy dealers will literally let cars sit for 6 months+, exposed to the elements; without starting, moving or cleaning them :/

They can polish it up right before delivery but if you look closely you'll see the small cracks into the paint... after a couple years they turn into exactly what your pics look like.

There are other possibilities but I'm like 90% sure thats what happened here.

For quick fix just throw one of the matte black hood decals they look pretty nice and it'll cover the hood spot.

On the fender its in a corner location so a good paint guy would spot fix it and it wouldn't be too noticeable

I think you're 100% correct. Bird crap was my initial suspicion.

Hope so, but unfortunately, spots are not smooth. Seems like no clearcoat.
