Well it sounds... different, thats about all I can say, didn't you mention something about water in the oil ?? Seems like a lot of noise still coming out of your top end & maybe I'm wrong but I swear I still heard what could possibly be a cam bearing ?? We have 2 of those fuckers correct ? & thats alot of moving parts. But maybe you dodged a bullet...:notsure:

I don't think you're out of the woods yet tho'

This was my transmission when it took a shit, sounds like a popcorn machine...

The engine sounds like it did before the muddin event, And the oil was runny, but no more than 5.5 quarts came out when I drained it, so it had to have been a little bit of water. I'll change the oil again, and now I got to find out if its the alternator that makes the noise or the fan clutch, or the water pump. ive narrowed it down to those three.

Can you turn the head of that snorkel around? I would just turn it if you go mudding again so that you don't splash stuff up in there. How the f did water get in your oil though?

    PS: sweet looking truck!

I can turn it around, but I don't think the water went in the snorkel. I found out when I was changing the oil that the cap was really loose, and I assume the water came through there.
    Thanks:D

The last time I went fast into deep soft mud, my A/C compressor pulley started making noise. Now I have to spray silicone spray behind the pulley regularly to keep it from howling. It will eventually die, I guess. :boom:

    It's been many years...but now I remember...

Usually, first thing (bearings) that go on the 1st gen trucks - are the A/C idler bearings. It's the pulley at the lowest most position on the front of the truck and exposed to all the water/mud.

My Alternator pulley bearings went bad also. I actually took the alternator to a alternator shop and they took the alternator apart, cleaned it out, put new bearings & brushes in it.

Janster's advise sounds like the way to go first.
Then go back to the engine/ top end

It was the water pump bearings that needed to be replaced. So needles to say replaced the whole water pump.
