Strange grinding type 'feeling' at 30-45 MPH...?

Just recently installed Bilstein 5100's with stock coils on the front and set them to the 1.75" setting. I also have BFG KO2 265/75R16 on.

When I get around 30-45 MPH theres a strange 'grinding' type sensation that I can feel in the pedal. It's very very slight, not a vibration, and not constant, but seems almost cyclical like it happens every 2-3 seconds. It goes away, or is at least not noticeable, when I get up to highway speeds around 55-60 MPH. It's also more noticeable when doing something like coasting down a hill and not applying any gas.

Anybody have an idea what this might be? I got a full alignment yesterday at the dealership by the way, and torqued my lug nuts myself when I got home. My tires are about a 1/2" from the UCA, is this too close? Just weird that I've only started to notice it after the 5100's were installed.

I have the same coilovers and tires, with identical gap and no grinding sounds or sensations to report. Hopefully that helps narrow down your search.

does your vibe go away in 4x4.... if so... its the front diff bushing.

If you are in warranty and want to deal with the dealer go for that TSB... otherwise 60 bucks for a proper bushing from ECGS and call it good.

I got he billies with 885x's on all 4 corners as well. Just got my 30,000 service done and noticed this same feeling around 35-40 mph. Thanks @Old School for the link. Is this something they should have identified during the service?

They usually don't search for TSBs unless there's a customer complaint, they do check for recalls though!

yeah don't know why we pay for warranty when they wont let you use it. stealership I tell ya, any how yeah if you goto the dealer u have to replicate that sound to the mastertech otherwise they wont do the tsb. I tried and just gave up. so I bought the ECGS bushing and gonna install that when I have time. I have a 2014 sr5 dblcb sb, and at 40mph u hear a whomp sound after a every rotation of the tire and 5 gear u will hear a growl. best thing is grab the cv and twist and see if it moves a lot and push up on the axle. if it doesn't move you should be good if it does need a bushing or possible bearing. for me I hope its only just the bushing.

I just recently got billies @ 2" and BFG KO2s as well. I think I have the same issue. What will happen if you don't replace the bushing?

possible new cv and wheel bearing etc. I don't know cause I rather get it installed and be on the safe side than to find out what happens after

Weird, cus I mentioned the vibes and it being cyclical with the tires and they just blamed it on my tires and checked wheel bearing since I had a lift and 255/80/17. But now I have an answer thanks TW.

Funny thing is I have had this lift on since around 5000 miles and no issues at all until I took it to the dealer for oil change. Like 2-3 days later it started so I mentioned it for my 30,000 service.

see that's what I did too I thought it was the tires and I still use stock tires 245/75/16 and I rotated it but it wasn't that either then kept digging around and finally found it was the bushing. best thing to do is grab your cv an move it, twist it. if it twist no go and if it moves vertical no good if it has a slight horizontal play I mean moves maybe 1/4" inch and no vertical or twist then okay

that's funny I did the same I had about 5000 miles on the lift and all of the sudden just happened too on my truck in the summer it was all fine and dandy then cold weather kicked up and mad more growling and humming, also when you let off the gas and go down hill it sounds worse, that's why at first I thought it was the transmission.
