    Hey all,

I'm back with another noise that has me confused.

Here is the audio/video of it, you may need headphones.

    Audio Link

Basically, for the past 6 months, whenever I put my truck in reverse and I begin to backup with idle speed (not pressing on the accelerator) I hear a loud groaning noise that sounds like a vibration of some sort.

If I drive or accelerate, the noise goes away. It's only when I'm backing up.

From search results, some said motor mounts, other said TSBs, but I'm not positive on either.

Let me know if you need any more information from me.

    Many thanks,

Turned out to be the air intake rattling.

Toyota wouldn't honor my CarMax warranty and wanted to charge me $200 to do the TSB after they charged me $80 for a "diagnostic fee."

    Bleh!

I'm going to try using weather stripping like some others have mentioned.

Damn, I musta missed this one before. I (and many others) have had the same thing in the past, loosening the clamp at the airbox and turning the tube about 1/4" on the airbox cured the noise.

    Thank you for the response.

Any chance you could attach a picture to show me which clamp?

    Many thanks!

    This clamp here:

On my truck, I had to rotate the flex tube counterclockwise on the airbox a bit less than 1/4", which moves the intake tube in relation the the inner fender. You may have to play with it a bit to find a spot that works for you. You can see where the knotch in the tube that used to line up with the center tab on the airbox is now offset to the rear.

Really appreciate it. I'll give that a shot this weekend.

    Thanks!

THANKS man. Def just saved me. I was so aggravated the past 2 days. Driving me nuts. Never made that sound before. Had some work done Saturday. While they were doing it I took the air hose to.the engine compartment. Pulled the air filter and cleaned it out. Never thought much of it. Kept thinking the housing wasn't sitting right. After reading your post I went and decided to take a look. Notch was not centered nor was band properly seated. Maybe happened as a result of taking filter out. Not sure. However i adjusted the tubing, repositioned the band and tightened her up. Back to being quiet as can be. GOOD LOOKS!!

    Same crap everyone else got
Old thread but I too am getting this noise. Started this weekend after I got my tires rotated and balanced at NTB. They did say I needed to change my filter which I was doing after when I changed my oil this coming weekend. Hopefully they messed with the air box checking the filter and it is my vibration. I would love for the solution to be this simple. Thanks for the thread!
