Hey everyone, I wanted to get some opinions here if possible, I went on a small trip, this trip had a really steep downhill road (really, really steep) I was engine braking but still had to use the brakes quite a bit, got to a point they started smelling so I stopped. When. I started driving again I started hearing this damn noise. Once I finally got to the bottom, I stopped for a second and the noise stopped. I have no idea what It could be, so I’d appreciate any opinions guys.

    It’s a 2023 TRD sport.

It seemed to be somewhere in the rear right side of the truck, but Im not so sure.

I believe to have had that noise before a while ago but doing something completely different. Don’t ask why lol but my truck shut off after aggressively throwing into drive from reverse. Turned it back on and noise was there then went away after stopping for a second as well. Happened quite some time ago still don’t know what it was.

I'm not a mechanic, but that sounds like metal scraping. Have you looked under the truck to see if there's anything obvious? If it stopped after you stopped the vehicle, then maybe you just have something loose that is shifting around and occasionally scraping. Or you might have picked up some debris (gravel etc) that worked itself loose on its own. Or your rear brakes are worn out.

I like the gravel theory myself. I crossed a gravelly stream once and something similar happened to me. Worked itself out before I had to do anything.

Also I'm still not a mechanic lol

Does the cadence of the noise correlate with speed?

Stone stuck in rear drum. Happened periodically to me in Vermont, three different vehicles. Stone gets wedged driving forward. Go to a parking lot, put in reverse jam on the brakes. Repeat until stone is dislodged.
