This is a long shot because it's a very unique noise and I don't know what is causing it but maybe someone else has had this happen. In my 2003 I have the transfer case shifter with the 4wd button. When I am at idle, I can hear an intermittent buzz every few seconds coming from right around the transfer case gear shift. It sounds like the actuator that you would hear when you press the button and it shifts into 4wd. I can't hear it from underneath the truck, and it doesn't actually shift into 4wd it just sounds like it is trying to. Very unique problem and I have no idea where to go from here so maybe someone has some input. Thanks

I have the same truck and have never heard the noise you describe.

    Hopefully someone else can help

Could be the A/C temp door moving. Mine does it once and awhile. If I just move the temp dial a little it quits. Try turning it from cold to hot and back about 40 times. That fixed mine.

I can't wait to try this when I get back to my truck later today. If this works you're the man. It's been driving me crazy

under the center console there is a Solid State control unit... I think for seat belt warning, it been a while, and the shift interlock... the gizmo the requires you to have your foot on the brake to take it out of park... if you have an automatic. Taking the shift cover off is easy then you can stick your fingers in there and see if you can feel anything vibrating.

I can't believe it. It was the A/C actuator and playing with the temperature fixed it. I thought my 4wd button was stuck and my transfer case was going to eventually explode. I can't believe it was something so stupid
