First off let me tell you i have not gotten the CEL on the dash although i wish i would... here goes sometimes when i drive my tacoma say 5 miles and stop at a store when i start off again everything seems normal until i try to accelerate on to the main road that is where the power goes.. feels like the cat. is stopped up now funny thing is the rpms never go wild there is just nothimg there push the petal down and nothing. but it would all of a suddem come back to life like nothing was wrong. any ideas what it could be?

Fuel pump maybe? It never gives you problems on start up?

Could be clogged fuel filter, or pump... I don't think a clogged cat would cause it so much to not have power... Maybe, hmm.

sounds like your fuel pump is slowly going. but weird cause you should be having problems starting it too. Maybe your injectors are dirty? Try Injector clean

Dead spot on your TPS.A scope would see it.May only happen after it warms up.

Ive had this problem before, not on my Taco but have dealt with it before. Mine was the same way also when it warmed up is when it would happen. Get it on the freeway and cruise it wouldnt do it.

You should be able to download the service manual. Most likely there is a section covering the TPS. I would need to go out and look at my Taco to say for sure but it should have a 3 wire plug. If you have a DVOM and can make or have some "back probe leads" for it, find out what the volt rang is on the TPS and backprobe the TPS. You are looking for consistant voltage rise or decrease throughout the working rang of the TPS. As the TPS wiper moves through idle to full throttle watch what the DVOM displays and if there are any jumps/spikes/or dead spots in the voltage. Dead spot meaning it wil go from something like 4.3 volts to 0.0 or somthing close and it will happen quickly. All a TPS is in most cases is a reostat, like a dimmer switch.
If your not maintenance savy "backprobing" is when a mechanic uses something to enter the sealed portion of the plug or component to check volts/amps ect ect. If your confused.....take it to a good shop and just explain your issue.
Whatever you decide......DO NOT JUST THROW PARTS AT IT untill something fixes it, this is very costly and retarded!

Also, a busted or partialy clogged Cat produces extream backpressure and can suffocate your engine drasticly reducing PWR. Let the truck run and warm up to normal OP temp then walk around and listen for exhaust leaks. If the cat is plugged it is very common to hear exhaust exiting at other places. I dont recomend this in most cases but you can lightly tap on a cat and listen....if its broken inside you will hear it. But again be careful if you do this, you can actualy break it yourself doing this.

    Hope this helps!

I had the same thing happen and it was a coil. not sure if it's the same type of problem abd I sure didn't think it was a coil bc it crank right up perfectly.

The TPS is a 3 wire sensor.A 5v reference,a ground, and the signal wire.Working range is .5v closed throttle to close to 5v at WOT(wide open throttle)A DVOM is not good to check a TPS.A scope or scanner with a scope function is best so you can see and graph any dead spots or spikes throught the range.A clogged cat will get worse the more you drive and harder you are on it and will choke the engine out.Not your case.A bad coil will cause misfires which would set a DTC and you would feel the misfire.A bad fuel pump would be noticed more at WOT due to fuel demand and injector duration. From what you are describing its a classic TPS.Get it tested to confirm before replacing it!

not the tps and havent had enough time to let my truck sit at mechanic till he can figure it out. im going to change the fuel filter it needs it done anyway. thinking about seafoaming also... never done anything like that. Im just thinking it might be the gas no one sells just straight gas around here anymore.. tough to fill up with premium when it takes 2 1/2 tanks a week to go to work. But i regress and next fillup i will use premium and see if any diffrent

Did you check your coils? I did everything I could to fix my truck and it turned out to be a coil! If you haven't checked them do so!

coils are working fine... just replaced fuel filter and seafoamed it. fuel filter was the origional one from the factory. 171000 mile on it and when i removed it and poured the gas out it looked like brown muddy water. this could have been prob all along there was also some crap that came out as well. loved the smoke show from seafoaming also. Ill see if any diffrent and if not then need to take off a awhile and leave it at shop.
