Looking at replacing my tired old Craftsman trimmer. We have about 2 acres in the mountains of NC and do a lot of trimming. The front runner seems to be Echo 2620/Shindaiwa 262. Any suggestions?

Yup. I typically use about 25% of the 8 ah Battery so there should be more than enough for about anything

Ive been happy with the interchangeable head trimmers. I can get my string, edge, and blow on a single tank without having to warm up multiple engines. The garden tiller attachment is a back killer though.

Same, once I started using electrical tools I never wanted to go back to gas. I'll put em away for 2-3 weeks even months, and aslong as I charge the battery the day before Im good to go. No old gas or gas mixing or crap like that to worry about...until the government drops an EMP

If there's an EMP dropped, the last thing I'll will worry about is my yard..

Cheapass craftsman. Runs great, so long as I buy the premixed gas from the hardware store. If I use regular from the station, that little bit of ethanol will trash the carb within a single season.

True, but nothing communicates "six feet, motherfucker" quite like a revved up trimmer. :cookiemonster:

Another vote for electric. I went with an EGO setup last year and have absolutely zero regrets.

I must be the only person that loves the smell of 2-stroke in the morning! Maybe I do need to seriously consider cordless...

You aren’t the only one, but it is a great application for battery power.

I would love to get on the battery train too, but I'm still gonna stick with 2-stroke appliances for a while. Because I'm not exactly fond of my neighbors.

Yep. The electric chainsaws are great these days too. It gets more use than my gas stihl.

NOT a Stihl Trimmer fan. I don't remember what model number we bought but that thing has always been a bugger to start. Tuned, mix proper, etc

    I'm looking electric

I'm a huge fan of the universal / click link style. I have a string trimmer, steal blade brush cutter, steel blade edger, chainsaw, blower, and hedge trrimmer attachments. And only 1 engine to maintain.

When the old craftsman died, I bought a stihl "kombi" (their name for the attachment system). Stihl says you can only use their attachments, but not true. Their attacments have a bump on them to prevent them from being in a generic powerhead, but generic attachments will go in a Stihl Kombi powerhead. Just be sure to get it all the way in!

The larger Stihl Kombi powerheads all weigh the same, so I went with the most powerful one. It never bogs down.

The blower attachment I have is an actual Stihl blower because they are much bigger and put out massive air.
The chainsaw attachment I have is a cheap one. I swapped the bar and chain for a 12" (vs. the 8" it came with), and bought extra extension poles.

So I have a very powerful high quality powerhead and buy mostly cheap attachments.

I undersand why the pros want separate dedicated machines for each purpose. But for a homeowner, I'm a huge fan of 1 engine, lots of attachments. When the engine dies, buy whatever you want that will plug into your attachments.
