Thanks. The guys I took them to went absolutely HAM with a grinder and took off wayyy more material than I wanted

That said I do think its a good looking finish. Almost like a metallic flake in the right light

Got the worst wheel fixed up this weekend. Good news, they feel very solid with the Chrislynn inserts! And overall it wasn't a bad process, though definitely a little nerve racking. Took some measurements before any drilling.

Bad news, two more bolts started to feel mushy as I was putting the ring back on. At this point I assume they are all on their last leg and wont be touching any of these bolts again unless I need to. At which point Ill consider doing the entire wheel with 12 inserts. Its really a shame the shit they use on the roads up here in the salt belt..

Pics & measurements if anyone ever finds themselves in the same boat. Surprisingly only 4-4.5mm thread engagement

Need approx 6mm engagement on the insert, total depth of the bolt hole is 8mm into the wheel measuring to the deepest point in the center

Start the new STI threads with a plug tap and finish with a bottoming tap. The standard plug tap that comes with the kit wont be deep enough by itself

Cut the insert down to approx length, leaving about 7 turns. Install it until it gets snug, trim as close to the wheel as possible, and run it the final half turn in

Was not able to break the tang off, but thats fine. Im sure it helps balance out whatever small mass of aluminum was drilled out. Lots of blue loctite during reassembly

I've got one that wasn't happy when it back in buts holding for now. Good to know this worked so I can fix it when I have time.

Good choice going with the inserts.
