I was Doing an oil change on the new to me automatic 2.7 4x4 98 tacoma for the first time and noticed the threads on the pan were stripped upon removal of drain plug. Also saw that the gasket in between the upper and lower pan is leaking very minimally. I’m leaning towards dropping the lower pan replacing it as well as getting a fumoto drain plug. On the other hand I could re tap the plug and ride it out. What’s the consensus here? Also if I do drop the pan is there enough room to get it out or will I have to disassemble anything to make room ? The last 3-4 threads were fine so I was able to do the oil change and torque it accordingly. Thx in advance

This all depends on your definition of the phrase "leaking very minimally". These "minimal" leaks usually get worse over time, so if you are going to keep the truck for a while...

At the very least, I would opt for tapping the plug to see if you can eliminate that as the source of a future problem.

    Yeah.
Looks like RockAuto has a couple of options for well under $100. I have no idea how easy or hard it would be to replace.

Unless you change your oil more than once a year or so, I would just "torque it accordingly" and let it go. When the oil puddle gets to be more than an inch around, then I would consider the previously mentioned options. I don't know how hard it is to remove the pan on your Tacoma, but on mine (3.4L engine) it's quite a job.
