I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I love my bees! I have 2 AB800's and the Vagabond II power pack that I use for portraits. There great lights and cheap I think I payed less then $1500 for my whole strobe setup. That's lights, power, Pelican case, softboxes, Octaboxes, umbrellas, Grids, beauty dish & other light modifiers.

I was sitting somewhere and a couple asked for a P&S photo. So I grabbed a napkin and used it to cut down the flash on the P&S. Man, you'd have thought I f'd up their pitcha or something...the dude was freaking out that I even used the flash.

All was good when they saw the shot...LOL.

sb600....honestly im not a huge fan of the 900....its too hard to use  the 600 is simple and imo is plenty for most shooting

Nikon's flash lineup is pretty impressive. I'd consider the 800 but if you can afford it, the 900.

What's the issue with the Vivvy? Can you not trigger it from the shoe? What you can do is use it as a slave and trigger it with another flash. You will not be able to use it in TTL mode.

The light output and the ability to control other flash units ("commander" mode) are two reasons to buy at least the 800 over the 600. Better zoom, external battery socket, remote cord and maybe filter holder are a few other reasons--though I use taped on Roscoe filters (I just got a filter holder for my flash).

The biggest reason not to buy the 800/900 is the price. You'll spend almost double for it. However, despite what Jake says, it is not hard to use (coming from a Canon owner).

If you can afford it, get the 800/900.

There's SB-700. Cheaper than 900 but it's not short of features.

SB-800's are discontinued, so you'll only find used ones. And most of the sellers are crack-smoka's, asking nearly the same cash as a new SB-900.

If you can swing it, get the SB-900, even if the learning curve is a little steeper. Otherwise, I'd suggest the SB-700 since it gives you a lot of features (including commander mode) that will come in handy.

I've got the SB-900 and an SB-600. I use the SB-600 in a Photoflex mini softbox as a slave triggered by the SB-900. I'd like to pick up a few more SB-600s or SB-700s as additional slaves.

Ideally I'd like some Bowens or Travelites, either with battery packs, but they are expensive.
