3 in lift in front and 1.5 in the rear. 285's.
I got stuck in deep sugar like sand driving in my 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport.
I was in L4 and all the power was going to the front left and right rear tire.
the right rear was off the ground since the left front was dug in so deep!
The only tire not stuck was the left rear on kind of hard sand due to reef under the sand.
The left rear tire had no power to spin.

Couldn't even move at all. Finally dug myself out. I didn't know that if I put it in H4 I could have gotten out!

    Arrrgghh!!! Tuff lesson!

ATRAC and/or your rear locker? Or do the sports not have either of those?

Interesting. I assumed all the TRD models had a locker, but my only experience with 2nd gens has been the one I bought in December.

Sports don’t have ATRAC. Air down and keep momentum. Follow that and you’ll be fine.

I'm trying to figure out how low I can go with mine. I have access to a beach that I can drive on. I was at 19 PSI blasting around in circles giggling like a school girl! Keeping the truck moving helps great, but I'd like to be able to stop and start.

I’m sure it depends a lot on the tire and wheel set up, how heavy the rig is, etc, but I used to take my 1st gen down to 8 psi pretty regularly in the snow. Was afraid to be aggressive turning or sliding sideways into ruts with them that low, but never ran a bead off the tire. I run beadlocks on it now, so I’ve been enjoying 5 psi floatation all winter. :D

Your truck in 4L has no locker (no locker on the Sport) and axels are open. In 4H you have automatic limited slip front and back. It’s an electronic limited slip. You would have had more traction in 4H with the automatic limited slip than in 4L.

Buy some traction boards or simply carry two pieces of heavy plywood a cut like 1' x 3' to stick under the wheels. Also alot of beaches require these plus a 1'x1' jack base board. And of course carry a shovel.

Next time if you have nothing to help with recovery, use your floor mats, or the bed mat if you got one.

Dangerously close to the shoreline, you’ll definitely sink there. Unless you were digging and sliding?

Airing down helps out tremendously providing you have a compressor to at least air up enough to drive on the road after. It’s all in the fun of the learning experience!

I regularly run 8 psi in my crawler (without beadlocks). I wouldn’t hesitate to run 12psi or so on my stock 2nd gen.

Yeah, I was thinking 12-15. I've been reading about it, and it's crazy how low some people will go! I originally was at 22 and I almost buried it in the sand. At 19 it seemed pretty good, but I kept it moving. Maybe I'll try 15 next time and see how it goes.
