I towed my snow blower to get it serviced with my buddies utility trailer (4 pin) and my truck got the infamous “stuck in trailer assist mode” issue ever since. Tried all kinds of things and the dealer was two weeks out to try the TSB which they said my truck didn’t even qualify for (?!). So I ordered one of these 7 pin emulators off Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BCA9B8

Plugged it in and it detected a trailer (made it “horse” cause I’ll never have a horse) and drove up the road with the emulator attached. Stopped with it running, Unplugged the emulator then drove a little ways and stopped. Got the trailer disconnected message and selected yes. Bam!!! All better!

Almost blew a gasket on the next stop when the light came back on but it was just snow on the back sensors whew.

    You are all welcome!!

Seems to me that they could solve this problem by adding a button to the interface that says “No, I don’t have trailer connected, ffs!” The button would then set it to whatever state it needs to be in so it doesn’t act like the trailer is there.

But what about the "horse".

    Thanks for the tip.

Don't know about the OP, but I couldn't stop myself from trying every type of trailer-type selection they included to see if it made any difference.

Do they have a "U.S.A. Military Tank" selection as a choice? :D

As you may know, when you disconnect (with the truck off) and start up again, it asks if the trailer is connected, and you have to give it the proper response–by pushing the button–and it shuts off. I've towed a dozen times and never had an issue.

I seem to recall that the questions it asks and the responses it requires are kind of counterintuitive. What I'm suggesting is a blanket "shut it off" button.

Whats even more fun is if you just have to move a trailer from in front of your house to your driveway and don’t hook the harness on. It will slam the e brake on over and over and refuse to back up. Sometimes it does this in my garage.

Have you tried turning off BSM and RCTA? Which is basically what the trailer detected mode does.

Yea I have its off. It still comes on erratically. Maybe it can actually be turned off in techstream .

Hope you get this sorted out. I would like to avoid this feature on any 4G I might drive. I won't be doing much if any towing and wouldn't need it anyway.

I wouldn't mind just the brake controller. I don't know what this trailer assit feature is bundled with. The only option for the Prerunner is a pkg that includes the brake controller and parking sensor. I'd give up the controller to lose the parking sensors.
