When you are saying stuck in “trailer mode” are you using the “tow haul” button or does the truck do something just from plugging a trailer in?

    Not Tow Haul button.
Instrument cluster trailer mode when it works it's pretty cool but now I have a light and a warning blurb when I start truck. I can hit the back button and the warning goes away but the trailer mode light in lower right stays on.

Does that automatically happen when you plug a trailer in. Or something you have to activate?

    You have to activate it.
Go to little gear then scroll right or left to vehicle settings, push and hold ok toggle. Scroll down to trailer settings, push and hold ok toggle.
Go to select trailer and pick one.
Hook up trailer with flat 4 connection drive around making right and left turns a bit. Should be good to go..
When you disconnect trailer go in and deselect the trailer. If amber light goes out after a little while your good, if not welcome to the club.
    Good luck

What’s the advantage of this over just hooking up the trailer and going?

I tow minimum of 3 times per week. Mine is finicky as well. I stop, restart, sometimes the parking brake set itself. I can always get the trailer mode to clear. I’ll watch carefully to see if there is sequence

If you don't use trailer mode and your backing up a cargo trailer up an incline your truck will read it as if you are going to hit something and slam on the brakes.
    It's not a fun surprise!!

Sorry, @Jrzydvl was saying that, "if you don't use trailer mode and your backing up a cargo trailer up an incline your truck will read it as if you are going to hit something and slam on the brakes.
It's not a fun surprise!!" When that happens it also sets the parking brake automatically. You have to undo it

Going to get my boat tomorrow from storage. Sounds like I need to put it into trailer mode and hope for the best.

I'm officially in the club as well, towed my boat this weekend and it is still stuck in towing assist mode. I have 2000 miles on my TRD Offroad Premium before I did any towing. I even disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and that didn't work. Still got the message in the center screen and the orange light on. I live in NC and called my dealer and they don't know anything right now, but will get my truck in next Tuesday the 7th to run diagnostics and check it out.

I’ll certainly get in touch with my dealer and keep everyone posted. If anyone hears anything please do the same.
