    It must be asked:
Did you try turning it off and turning it back on again?

That is what we all have to do is flood our dealers with this problem so Toyota has to address this software issue.

Yes sir. No dice. Tried selecting and deselecting again. As well as deleting the trailer.

as I look at the 4 flat on the truck I see little metal rings around each prong. Does everyone have this? Just trying to figure this out.

Here is mine and I noticed when I reselect and deselect a trailer it displays an "error" in the center display for a second and then goes back to the some safety systems are unavailable while in trailer assist mode.

    Software fail. Isn’t tech cool?

I guess I need to un-retire. I guarantee I could fix this bug.

Yeah, my '17 towed my cargo trailer today with no issues lol.

Sucks to have a new truck and some dumb software gremlin starts harshing your buzz. Hope the '24 owners get it sorted, but I'm glad to not have to deal with this stuff... for now.

Called a few dealerships. All have said that haven’t heard of this problem. So do I take the truck in? For them to do what?

So they will have to file a issue with Toyota and hopefully once enough tacomas report the same issue they will do something about it.

Make sure you answer yes to is the trailer disconnected. Manly if using a 4 pin flat connection. May be why mine is stuck in La La land.

Went for 1st test of reprogram last night, didn't do anything. I'm going to hook up to a 7pin trailer and see if I can get it to reset today.

I even deleted all my trailer profiles and still the truck thinks it is in tow assist mode.

I just hooked up to a trailer with a 7 pin connection, set it up as a utility and drove around a little, when it asked me is the trailer disconnected I answered yes. Then went in and deselected the trailer. Shut truck off, opened and closed door and restarted. Magically the light and warning verbage was gone. I am hoping it stays off on future starts.

I have a small travel trailer that has a 7 pin with trailer brakes I'm going to hook up to tomorrow and see what happens. I've only towed my boat which is just a 4 pin. Thanks for the response!!

Well this seems promising for a temp fix! But I don’t have a seven pin. But thank you for the information.

Well here is a new one. Before I went to hook up to my camper with the 7 pin I wanted to go mountain biking first. Once I put the bike rack on and loaded the bike and started the truck it asked me is a trailer attached. I answered no and the trailer assist light and warning was off. I got back home took the bike and rack off the truck and the trailer assist is still off. I don't have any warning or lights on my dash anymore.

Just randomly turned off? I’m going to get a 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor today to see if I can get it off like that.

It had something to do with my hitch mounted bike rack. I believe it thought it was a trailer and asked me and I hit no and the tow assist finally turned off and stayed off.

Well I tried a 7 pin adaptor. I plugged it in. With the truck running. Without it running. Selected and deselected trailers. Nada. I am not getting the any pop up to select yes or no. Does that happen when you unplug the trailer? Or when you deselect it on the menu? Frustrating. So I guess it’ll have to go to the dealer.

Great news, when I disconnected my trailer the first time a statement came up that asked if trailer was disengaged yes or no. Dummy me said no and I guess the computer didn't like it.
So I finally got the chance to do what I suggested when they couldn't find any issues. I hooked up to a 7pin style trailer and set it up as a cargo trailer and road around making right and left turns, parked and disconnected it. Then the truck asked me if the trailer is disengaged yes or no. I clicked yes then returned out of that screen shut engine off opened door, closed door and restarted and magically all was well no more warning or light. This morning I started again with no issues.
I'm so happy now, good luck everyone.
