Went through all this tried the 7 pin retried the 4 pin since it stated with that. In the trailer dash menu I have even deselected the trailer I added. Calling the dealer tomorrow!

Update, went into the dealer today about this. They said they have had a few of these problems and the above steps have worked. But here is what they found out. The above steps work for those who have rear park sensors and trailer brakes.

Mine does not have these. Dealer had three techs working on it and are stumped. Truck was left overnight and they will be contacting Toyota techs in Texas for help.

    Is this a question? I
The syntax on that is asinine. Trailer not detected. How about ok? Yes, it's not detected? Yes it's detected? No it's not not detected, no is it not there?

Or, hear me out guys, just let me tell the truck if a trailer is there.

So I used my trailer with a 4pin flat connector and no the computer will not shut off the trailer mode no matter how I answer the weird question is a trailer still attached or not. The only way I can get the computer to stop thinking it has a trailer attached is to hook up to a 7 pin round trailer and set it up and shut it off and answer the question if its attached or not, then light goes out and all is well. I think if toyota doesnt come up with an update soon im going to figure out how to rig a 7pin connector with a 9v battery and jump a couple wires to fake out the computer in the truck to reset to not towing something. Arrrrgghh!!

You can buy a 7-pin adapter for a 4-pin trailer that may be an intermediate fix.

Yea if you read it quickly its wierd but it kinda makes sense...The truck is asking you to confirm there is no trailer so the response would be "Yes Im confirming there is no trailer"...But Im a SQL guy so I look at things wierd lol.

I'm not sure why the truck needs to ask us questions. My 2015 GMC Sierra writes on the dash "Trailer Connected" if there's a trailer connected when I start it. It runs as if there's no trailer connected if there's no trailer connected.

I'm not even sure why that functionality is on the TRD OR MT, I don't have "Tow/Haul" mode and I don't have a built-in trailer brake controller. So what's the advantage to detect a trailer?

Because if you try to back up with no trailer detected it will slam on the brakes because it thinks you are going to hit something. It disables features. Which is why it’s really annoying when it’s stuck detecting a trailer that isn’t there.

Yes, but the only human interaction required for what you described to work is for the human to hookup and connect the trailer to the vehicle. Disable extra features if trailer is connected, don't if there isn't one. I don't need to answer questions the truck can detect. There hundreds of sensors on the truck, none of them require us to confirm the findings.

ARRRGH!!!! I hate new tech! My bike rack sets off the trailer detected. First two times I answered No correctly and all was fine. This morning I hit ok before toggling to no and I'm stuck in trailer mode now too. Give me back my 30 year old Landcruiser!!! This is frustrating!!! I'd figured out how to turn off the Parking Assist Brake when the bike rack is there so the truck doesn't slam on the brakes when I'm backing out of the driveway, but no luck getting out of the trailer mode. I have no trailers set up. Guess I'll try removing the bike rack and go for a drive and see if that turns it off.

Do you connect your bike rack for a 3 brake light? It's odd if not connected.
