I've got one of these. Will give that a try! No trailer tho, just a 2 bike rack!

It works off the sensors or the truck from what I was told. Not the actual trailer hook up so a bike rack would make sense. It would also make sense why it would ask about a bike rack. In this case you would push no.

Yep, first two times I answered No and all was good. Went to do the same and accidently pressed ok with the answer at yes. My error, but removed the rack and went for a couple of short drives. That didn't work, so I'll try my 7 pin to 4 pin adapter without a trailer and see if I can't fool the tech!

Well, drove the truck a little longer this evening to pick up some sushi. Started the truck to come home and had the choice on trailer detected so I very carefully this time said NO and all is good.

From my experience with using hitch accessories the truck does better at detecting things when you do some full lock turns in forward and reverse. With my hitch carriers I select 'no' for trailer but I go into vehicle settings and disable parking brake assist so I can actually back up. Its annoying that a warning comes up in my messages constantly but whatever.

I had the same issue - I was backing boat trailer into a lake. Didn’t bother with the seven pin connector as it was only 40’ from where I hooked onto trailer. Trailer assist detected trailer, from backup camera or blind spot sensor and put truck in trailer assist mode. Unhooked trailer later but trailer assist stayed on. I’m thinking I missed a question about if trailer detached/attached so it stays on until the next time you hook up to a trailer. Fix for me was to hook back up to trailer, pulled ahead 6 ft, put it into reverse. Then question popped up “detected a trailer”. Picked “no” but make sure to hold ok button in for at least 10 seconds. Then trailer assist went away. Backed trailer up to its original spot and unhooked. Problem solved but honestly, do I really need an automatic trailer detection system - no. I should just be able to turn system on manually and shut it off manually.

It should work like on my 2015 GMC, if a trailer is plugged and it detects it, it’s on, if not it’s off. There’s option to override if driving with tailgate open or something behind not connected.

    Thanks for the useless tip.
Here’s the answer: it’s a bug. A bad design flaw that needs a software upgrade.

Yes, it's a bug or bad design or both.

    ***Update ***
There is a sequence of steps to follow to unhitch a trailer, and to show your truck to not detect it. I believe it’s a built in safety feature so everything is disconnected before you drive off.
But what i had to do was hook up a trailer, plug in the 7 prong and drive around at about 25 mph. Once my truck detected a trailer i hit Confirm. I then parked my truck, turned it completely off and unhitched the trailer and unplugged the wires.
Then i drove away until my truck asked to confirm there was no trailer detected. I hit Yes, no trailer detected and the message went away and all my safety features returned to normal. Hope this helps.

We all need to hound the Sh_t out of Toyota to fix the Bug. Having to go through this amount of bull.... is ridiculous. The idea is neat but un-necessary for anyone that pulls a trailer more than once a year.
I think the 7 pin connector needs something attached to power pins to help system reset. I am attempting to rig a 7pin conn. so I can just plug it in and the system shuts off.

I wouldn’t count on an update until the 2025’s ship.

When an owner brings their vehicle to a dealer for a warranty issue, Toyota knows about it. Warranty repairs are expensive for the company, so when they detect an issue, they change the vehicle.

Notice the shutter issues went away? Their chief engineer mentioned an acronym for a group that monitors new-roll-out models–and of course, I can't recall it. In the same video, he mentioned a software upgrade that will happen in August for the one broken front-end issue.

It would be a pain, but we should all go to the dealer to get them to remove trailer mode after unhooking.

I think that would require rewriting the software.
