Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Why doesn't anyone apparently run the lifetime replacement ones from autozone or whoever? they are easy enough to change and the price is way lower than OEM.. Buy 2 keep a spare and never buy one again?

I havent had the issue yet myself but i am curious

Because changing CV axles is still somewhat of a pain in the ass. The CVJ axles are remaufactured OEM for ~$150. Twice the price but I'd bet way less than half the repairs.

The problems with aftermarket CV's is they are no where as strong as the OEM version. But the main thing is it has nowhere to same amount of articulation as the oem version. so at full droop when on the trail its binding before it normally would with the original.

you should be fine. if you are doing the driver side though, it would be a good time to replace the needle-bearing in the differential. if your have the infamous vibes that is

They are much weaker. I've yet to see anybody break an OEM one that wasn't pushing it to it's limits, but I've seen people break the ones from Autozone, Napa, and O'reilly's during mild offroading.

As for the bootslide mod I wouldn't bother. I have seen several people (including myself) do the bootslide mod with poor results. Even if the fins are rubbing they will still last thousands and thousands of miles. Seems like most of the people who do the bootslide mod end up with the clamp tearing the boot prematurely, they pulled the boot out too far putting it on stretch which causes the boot to tear prematurely again.

I found a used OEM from a parts junkyard and swapped my broken CV for a Napa that is sitting as a spare just in case.

As for the crazy pricing. Toyota charges almost $1200 for a rear driveline on these trucks, yet even high-end nice driveline shops will build you a nice custom one for about $500. haha
