I am pretty sure I put the damper rod back last time that I replaced the filter. Now it's gone. Where can I buy a new one? Does anybody know the part #?

Same, the damn stud is deformed after having taken the damper off a couple of times and it's worthless now. Another poor design aspect. :(

Hey now... be nice. A Toyota engineer probably spent years and wasted millions designing that little piece of shit... :poking:

I agree everytime i work on my truck my hands get jacked up from being big, i have even had my little girl do a few things that i can not do because of this.
These trucks are made for smaller hands. Asian hand size would be ideal!

What I did was use a rubber tile spacer. Like for bathroom tile. White rubber wedge 1/2" x 1/2", pointed to about 1/8" thick. Cut it narrow enough to fit in the hole and then shove it in. Seems to work great. The soft rubber should hold the prongs apart until I replace the filter again

I didn't watch this vid because I needed to know how to hook it up, I just like seeing how everyone does things differently. By the way, what's up with the robo-voice? Lmao!

Same thing here. I bought my 2007 DUB/CAB used in 2009. It came from southern California according to the carfax, which may explain why the glovebox damper prong on the box was partially stripped, probably changed the filter in the first 10k mi cuz it was clear it was a beach truck. I went to replace the stock CAF with the K&N and never got that sucker to stay on. It would come right off when I opened the box and the box would slam down. Scared the shit outta me the first time it happened ( had my loaded GLOCK .45 ACP IN THERE MAN!!!) Since that day it's been sitting in my glove box behind my huge stack of Whataburger napkins! :burp: (You're from Katy so you know what i'm sayin! Gotta have that Whataburger!) Gonna try using plastic weld to fix it eventually once Ifinish all my stereo installs.

I drilled a tiny hole thru the plastic nub thing. Installed the damper, jammed a thin piece is stainless wire thru my drill hole and folded the wire over. No issues for the year.

About time for me to take it off to swap filter.

How about using a wire clip similar to the ones on our brake caliper pins? Just a thought.

HI, I just encountered this problem after cleaning the glovebox. The video and the pix labeled A and B here were immensely helpful. It took several tries but I reconnected the shock successfully. Thanks for posting this solution.

I just drilled a small hole in the lower dash plastic cover (hole pointing in the direction of the fender) and used a zip tie to secure the upper part of the damper. I will only have to remove the lower part of the damper to replace the cabin air filter. I love this fix. Should have done it a long time ago.

Did this a few years ago and its still working just fine. Don't have to remove anything to get to cabin air filter

I used the stub portion of this furniture screw cap. I cut the flat part of it and just used the stub
