IMG_1324.jpg Was doing the spark plugs . The one on the driver side closer to the cab has a foam padding that has a bolt went to put it in and the bolt snapped … tried to extract it no luck . Is it ok if the pad is not secured with a bolt . Don’t see this thing moving . I feel like it’s just an extra security bolt to hold it in place .

Nice picture, but it might help to circle in red what you are talking about!

There is a bolt that hold the foam padding.

I have poor old vision but that's a really bad pic. Try to get a larger more clear one and also one of a proper "bolt" and pad in place. Might not be getting much help cause we can't see or understand.

I would keep trying to extract it that would bug the crap out of me. Did you over tighten and snap the bolt head off?

what have you tried so far? I can't imagine the remaining piece is in there that tight, given it was overtightened and not rusted in place, maybe superglue a fresh m6 bolt or something on there, let it cure, then try spinning it out. Or center punch (a nice sharp auto punch) and a small left hand drill bit?

Remove the foam padding and try to get a small pair of vice grips on it and turn it out providing the bolt is sticking out far enough.

So there is actually a metal bolt on this engine that has a singular function of keeping a piece of foam in place?

from the crappy pic, That looks like an amazing start to a good starter hole.....
1/8" good quality drill bit, just fast enough to pull metal chips & good straight stable pressure....
Best style extractor is a straight flute, at work we all use rigid 1/8" for exhaust work & smaller stuff...
Ive extracted literally 1000's of broken bolts, didnt matter who broke them, they all came to me....
I included a link to the style extractor im referring to but can see to source an 1/8" off eBay, maybe theres a # for it, you use an 1/8" drill bit...
Ridgid makes them, you can get individuals & dont need to buy a set...
Your hole isn't deep enough for an extractor to do anything at this point.
If you have a crappy bit & drilling to fast, wasting your time.
A good drill cobalt bit or similar, cuts like butter...
We sourced the individual rigid extractors on most of the tools trucks or rigid directly

Well figured out all this piece is a sound deadening foam . Has no real purpose . Not worth my time to get the bolt out if it stays cool if not I’m not worried about it . Thanks all for the advice .

I would leave it as is. Or if you want, glue it down with something suitable. It's in a really tight spot to try and extract it.

You can remove the foam piece proactively, to avoid any chance of it dislodging and say, falling on the exhaust.
