You should always stop filling as soon as the pump automatically shuts off. "Topping off" or continuing to fill after the auto-stop can lead to saturation and failure of your truck's charcoal canister and can cause problems with the gas stations vapor recovery system.

I used to keep track of mileage the old way with a paper and pen because the fuel gauge didn't work in the '77 in my sig pic. Plus, smart phones didn't exist back then.

It's quicker to get an average MPG. It takes me about 2 weeks to gulp down a full tank.

Jesus! Sometimes I wish I had a 4 banger... It takes me all of 3 days to gulp a tank down. Sometimes 2 if I go off road and use 4WD... But I also drive 90 miles a day for work

That's like word for word what you learn working at costco gas station. Also, miles/gallon, just like miles/hour or dollars/gallon.

LOL:laugh: I just do the half tank thing when I want to calculate MPG. I don't do that procedure on the regular.

I'm not that obsessed with my MPG. As long as it is better than my old 4Runner I'm happy!

It is pretty sad what comes out of the school systems these days. We get kids at work who can't even do simple math using a calculator. Apparently the things I think of as simple life skills are now higher learning that some don't get.

Rent (or Netflix) the movie "Idiocracy"

It was intended as a comedy.

It would be funny if it weren't so true... it's more of a horror film.

go buy an ultragauge, take all of the guesswork out of it and you will not have to reveal your educational level! plus you'll get monitoring of the other sensors in the vehicle, a lot more info than you'll ever need. i've had mine for 6 months and my overall average is 22.7 since install.

When I took a trip above Knoxville, Tn to buy my truck I stopped at a little hole in the wall service station and they had a pump attendant. When I first pulled up I had no idea what to do, I was walking in to pay and he finally got my attention.. Kind in mind thats the first one I ever been to.
