OK I did a search on overhead lights, so if this has been covered already, I didn't find it and my most humble apologies.
I found the thread about the dome light.. With the super-bright LED's replacement and I plan on getting one of those.
My question is about the map lights (up by the rear view mirror) ...
I'm assuming it's just regular ol' bulbs in those. I'm also assuming I can replace those with some LED bulbs. No biggie. I also assume i'll lose the bulbs 'fade-in' and 'fade-out' feature.. Don't care. I assume you just need to pop the covers off and replace the bulbs.
I just wanna know from what end do you pop the covers off and with what. Small screwdriver I assume? I just don't wanna go into it from the wrong end/side and break them.
Of course I could be absolutely wrong with all my 'assuming', sooo....

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Yes, you just pop them off. There's a thread on TW for the LEDs and it covers the bulbs to use, how to pull them out using tape, how to open the covers, etc.

    That is a good assumption!

If you pry open the map light covers from the outside edges, the inner clips will bend and the covers will be sloppy / loose. They can be gently squeezed back together, but it is best to pry from the inner, aft edge with a wide, non-metallic tool as the plastic mars easily.

    Thanks!
Yeah, I saw the MESSO dome light replacement and that's what I want to get for the dome light.
But ... For the map lights ... Are 'halogen' bulbs, stock from the factory? (I thought they were just regular ol' 191 bulbs that have been used since forever ..) If they're halogen, they're not that much brighter than incandescent bulbs..)
So, would LED replacements that replace the ol' 191 bulbs be just as good as replacing with the aftermarket MESSO kits? (Probably not, but doesn't hurt to ask) ... Any opinions on either/or?
I need 'better' than what is stock, but I also don't need the cab lit up like I'm being abducted by aliens either. If regular LED bulb replacements work fine, it's lot cheaper than the MESSO kits.
    Any opinions on either/or?

I have meso map and dome lights and they're well worth the price. The light is super crisp and even.

Yes! A person gave me as set of LED bulbs as payback for flashing a TSB tune for him. They are immensely brighter than the Stock bulbs.

I would go the @MESO route if you want the red lights or the look. I have thoughts of that, esp with the new dual color dome light. If I find both sets in stock at the same time, I planned on grabbing them.

Thank you sir! The whole 'kit' for replacing everything looks very inviting. Especially as it's just replacing bulbs and not whole fixtures.
As I mentioned, I just need a bit 'more'... No need to light things up like a football stadium... LOL! ;)

Make no mistake. Either replacement bulbs or @MESO 's kit will be a football stadium. Mine are quite bright in the noonday sun. This is part of the reason that I am considering @MESO 's red maps and dual color dome kit.

My tip there would be to add some tint to the inside of the lenses if you go with the replacement bulbs.

There are other threads that show one OE bulb and one replacement or @MESO dome light in the same pic.

LOL! Yeah I saw the 'multi color' dome light... I guess some might like that. But since I'm not running a whore house from the back of my truck, I figured I don't really need a red dome light .. LOL!

Not quite the purpose, but if that is your take on it . . .

Red lights are generally easy on the eyes in the dark and do not attract bugs. Of course, I do call my bed lights, Mood Lighting:

No problem! I took a photo but it doesn't do the lights justice. They are the perfect brightness without being annoyingly bright. Plus, added bonus, the fade out effect is there when the lights go out.

Save yourself the time and money and just get the Meso map and dome lights from the start.

My MESO map and dome lights delivered last Friday. I was initially going to get dual brightness but someone convinced me to go dual, so that's what I did, and I personally like it to be honest.

Pop it out, I did it the hard way and the stock light went up into the plastic mount, I googled it and then removed the plastic mount, easy peasy.
