I looked at doing it that way, but with the tailgate up it was really high up and far out over the front of the cab - figured better to have it a bit out the back so it wasn't so tall. Either way if you have your ratchet straps secure you don't need to worry about it sliding out of the back. Run some around the rungs from the front and rear d-rings so you have tension both directions and you'll be fine.

I fail to see how any paint comes into contact with a ladder when hauled in the bed.

Wait, I don't own a Prius? Man that Toyota dealership has lied to me twice now.

No wonder bringing my snowblower to my Mom's last night was so difficult.

    Assumptions are awesome.

Fyi, the second paragraph of the first article in the Declaration of Independence contains the phrase "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".

So I guess that includes vehicle choice.... thankfully.

OP asked about various options for toting this ladder; over the cab, in the bed, etc. Over the cab is always a little risky, even with careful attention paint protection. There are ways to do it and save paint, and I think that's what he was looking for. Options that he felt comfortable not messing up his paint with.

Heck, I was even careful with my Gobi Stealth rack on my cruiser. And that thing's nearly indestructible. But you rub off some powder coat down to bare metal, and mother nature takes her toll.

I purchased a Werner Ladder from homedepot for my projects around the house. They are a multi purpose ladder. They are not cheap but well worth the money in my opinion. The one I have is a standard 5ft 9in (closed) ladder and it extends to 21 feet. The item number is MT1-22B. It’s a 21 foot telescoping multiladder and has a 250 pound capacity. They sell for around $170. With this ladder you can configure it to 33 different positions.

thats actually a pretty sweet little ladder. I like werner, i already have one of their 24' ladders. I just needed another tall one so I can replace my gutter. (requires to people each on ladders)

I guess we need to chalk this one up to "make friends with your neighbors" ?

One of mine has a built jeep. He was the first guy I made friends with cuz you know he has a torque wrench, etc that I didn't :D

    Sweet!

I inherited one of those when I bought my house in 91.

Used it once or twice since then, but bought a multi purpose folding ladder that gets used often, just more versatile.

    Good luck with the project.
