Quick question do you need to buy synthetic oil filter for synthetic oil or can you use a reg oil filter? Please explain

All oil filters are synthetic compatible. Even Walmart's SuperTech.

Yep. Some filters can go past 10K miles, to work with longer OCI synthetic oils, but it is due to the filter construction/number of pleats, and not just media.

Correct. 'Bob Is The Oil Guy' is a wealth of info. I just go with OEM or Fram Ultra.

So your saying can change this every 2 years and oil every year?

So if you get a reg oil filter will it last as long as the synthetic oil? If you only change oil once a year???

Just flip the switch on the oil filter from Conventional to Synthetic.

JK. It don't matter. But a syn filter is more consistent in trapping contaminants. The cellulose filters can have porous gaps. You can view the difference under a microscope. The City Wanderer utuber shows this in his filter cut-ups.

I am sure the fine print is similar to other high mileage filters - that you stick with recommended oil changes for your vehicle, but that the filter is able to go the stated mileage as recommended by the car maker.

Change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles and you won't need a: "Synthetic Endurance"/"25,000 Mile Protection" oil filter. It's the additives in the oil that wear out and the contaminants that accumulate over time that is the issue. AFAIK: The synthetic base stock never breaks down. If I was going to trust the oil to protect my engine and leave it in for 25,000 miles, I definitely wouldn't trust the oil filter do the same and go that long... I'd still spend the $5.00 for the filter and change it every 5,000 miles.

My 2-cents: OEM Toyota filters for under $5.00 online on their parts site, and any synthetic oil you'd like that meets the Toyota specification for your truck. Toyota branded oil in the quart bottles is: Mobil1

    25000 mile oil filter.
Automotive marketing wank is getting out of hand.

Oil and filter every 5k if your keeping your truck till it’s pooched. 10K if you buy what the EPAs selling lol but the filter Toyota puts in the truck new is like 5 bucks.

No, not at all, lol. I'd change it every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or 6 months to a year. Whichever comes first.

Depending on your driving habits. Short trips, change more often. Long highway driving, less. Good luck, buddy :)

    +1 for the above

Change your oil AND the filter every 5000 miles. Use the fully synthetic oil of your choice and any OEM spec-sized filter.

i understand trying to save money, nothing is getting cheaper. but the long game here is "what's cheaper?" a few dozen $50 oil changes, or a new motor?

The D3 OEM Toyota filter for 5 bucks and Mobil 1 synthetic is a great combo. :)

Let's kick this Friday oil thread off right:bananadance:

Speaking strictly for myself, I would never, ever, even on my worst days, use any kind of Fram oil filter. Maybe they are better now. But in the late 1990s, Cummins engine company recommended against using Fram oil filters because the engine vibration dislodged parts of the filter media on a small number of them and sucked them into the oil passages. That resulted in engine failure. Repeating, maybe--probably--Fram oil filters are better now. I still, for my own purposes, will never use them.

For my Tacoma, when the time comes, it'll get a Toyota-branded filter. Or a Donaldson, Wix, one of NAPA's premium filters, or even a Wal-Mart brand. This is my own opinion. You should do as you wish.
