For my first thread on this forum...I give you my stupid Taco owner trick of the day.

Destroyed my passenger side mirror. It is still there...mostly, but otherwise it made a lot of crunchy sounds against the door jamb of my garage as I was backing in. Neighbor down the street heard it and gave a sympathetic grimace. My fault, too fast, didn't give myself enough time to correct.

Anyone ever replaced one? Good news is that I got a great look at the wiring, and it looks pretty straightforward. Wanted to see if it was doable before I took it to the dealer.
    Thanks for the help.

Glass, housing, or both? It's all easy to do.

I was camping a few years ago and the closest tree dropped a large limb during a sudden downpour. The only casualty, in a freak occurrence of coincidence and geometry, was the glass in my passenger mirror. I replaced it with aftermarket (spotter). It was incredibly lucky and easy.

Housing. Its mangled enough that I can't really get all of the housing parts to snap back together.
I've found a few youtube videos; seems like a fairly straightforward job to swap. Now I'm trying to hunt down the right replacement with the camera, signal, blind spot light, etc.

The only remotely difficult portion of the work is to remove and reinstall the door panel. After that there are three nuts holding the mirror assembly on and some electrical connectors.

Make sure all the clips are on the panel before pushing it back on. Leave none of the clips on the door.

Don't lose the nuts as you take them off or put them back on - not a lot of luck getting them back - they get caught in the different sheet metal layers. IIRC they are M5-.8 thread, most likely available at your ACE Hardware.

Sucks, but I've definitely been there and done plenty of stupid shit in my time. I do think it's better when I AM the one doing the dumb shit myself, opposed to coming out of a store and some asshole smashed into a door or body panel and or took a mirror off... At least you've done it over a Holiday weekend, many sales currently going on and I'm sure you can find a recent replacement deal. Check around Sparks parts or other certified Toyota parts websites, I'm betting you'll at least find some coupons and free shipping. Good Luck!

You know it's bad when you paid thousands for 360-deg surround view and still hit something while parking.

Thos little white clips like to vanish into the door. If you disassemble the entire door you can find them again. But "pro tip of the day" is to NOT put the clips in the door and then push the panel into the clips ... INSTEAD ... put the clips on the door panel and then push the pane-with-clips onto the door.

Just be glad the tax rate is low enough you only have to pay for a mirror. Could be a lot worse tax rate.

The mirror replacement parts can be fairly expensive for what you are getting, is the mirror painted cover good? That would be my concern. I did this about a year ago on a 2021 pro, so slightly less tax but was mutually furious because i crunched it backing into a very tight concrete garage spot. Fortunately was able to salvage and put it back after picking out all the parts needed from oem toyota parts.
